Hopefully some pictures of the cars will attract more interest than yesterday's guide to the tourist spots of Le Mans.

Friday is a 'rest' day with no track running. The pit lane is open to anyone with a General Admission ticket, and a fascinating place to visit. It's extremely crowded though, limiting angles you can choose for photography.
On the way down we saw Dave Richards (boss of Prodrive, who entered the LMP1 Aston Martins) sgining a few autographs.

Entry to the pits.

The first garage you come to is the Peugeot 908 LMP1. There's three of them actually.

No. 92 Ferrari.

The over riding impression I got of the pits was a sense of detail in the work being done. All the cars were stripped (almost back to the tubs in some cases) and given a good going over.

One of the Aston Martins gets some attention.

Again.

A case in point re. the attention to detail. This chap dismantled and cleaned every single union on these gas bottles. Every one was cleaned and wiped, the rag inspected, and done again, until the rag came back spotless. Then he moved to the next Aston garage to start again, before starting the third. I reckon he spent over an hour on this job! Given that these bottles operate the air jacks in the car and the air guns for the wheel nuts, they are pretty important to look after.

More close inspection.

More preparation work.

Hmmmm....Carbon!

Audi nose. I think the tape label refers to 105 races, but not sure for who or what.

Reminds me of the Cylon ships in BSG for some reason.

Airguns.

Narain Karthikeyan waits in the Audi before practicing driver swaps. Narain was due to start the race for the team. However, he left the dummy grid for a quick whizz and dislocated his shoulder jumping the pitwall. Race over for him.

Move it!

The massive pit complex. There are more garages out of shot to my left.

Some details:

Thanks for looking.
