I've decided to revert back to the Software graphics mode for now, as when I go back to play LB2 after a while of not playing it, it can be quite laggy in 3DFX mode - and I'm not using any CPU killers. I think for me, it's the vsync in dgVoodoo, but I have to have this enabled otherwise the yaw is TOTALLY useless and AI units are like dragsters.

I also get a lot of lag in-game after I've decompressed a new terrain. For me, in Software mode, I get NO lag but the AI speed is how it should be.

I personally don't mind Software mode, and I think that LB2 is one game out of hundreds where it actually looks quite passable. You also get a bit better sense of speed at low level, I feel, as the terrain textures are more pixelated, equating to terrain 'noise'.

What have you people got to say for yourselves then? You're all unusually quiet!

Busy playing Black Shark, I guess.

Actually, I'm hooked on an un-sim at the moment! ;-)

Amen from me, bro. The cool modes are great, but problematic. Software still rocks in this sim. Can't say that about ANY other game!

I wish that there were many keen LB2 players when the game first came out, then we may have been able to get our hands on some true 3DFX screenshots of LB2 in all its glory. Even today with people who make retro rigs, you rarely get that TRUE Glide sensation as most people settle for Voodoo 3 and above cards that didn't always render the sim as it should have been. I'm still waiting to see some pure 3DFX shots with a Voodoo 1 or 2 card.

Ask and ye shall receive... Would you like anything specific? I have an SLI setup of Diamond Voodoo 2's on my retro rig. I don't have my keycard handy and don't recall any screen shot key. If memory serves me correctly back in my 101st days of flying LB2 we used hypersnap or DXsnapper or something like that. You reccomend the cap app and I'll supply the pictures.

My lousy "Janes" rig that I scavenged together from my old PC parts collection.

ECS K7VZA
AMD K7 1400
Matrox G400 (I think)
Diamond Monster Voodoo 2 12MB (SLI)
Diamond Monster MX300 (Aureal Vortex 2) sound card
CH Combatstick, Pedals and Pro Throttle (game port versions)
21" CRT (desk breaker... but was da'bomb back in the day)

I built this specifically to play LB Anthology (software raster), LB2 (Glide), F-15 (Glide), WWII Fighters (Glide) and F/A-18 (Glide), no mods, just final released patches on hardware that is "more or less" contemporary for the sims.

Hello Flyboy, are there any shortcomings of the software mode like FFARs falling short or problems with tail rotor (tried Longbow2 long time ago but got discoureged by these and left it behind eventually, didn't want to use wrappers), maybe some new tweaks came up? Would like to try Longbow 2 in software mode if it played like it should.
I fly Jane's F-15 in software mode and it doesn't bother me at all. I agree with you about the terrain 'noise' feeling.
Awaiting reply...

Y'know, these aren't magic weapons, right? In Afghanistan, there's an account of the first Apache attacks against Taliban positions were frustrated by...you guessed it (if you did, you did, anyway)...FFARs that landed short of their target. So, the pilots didn't do any fancy computer adjusting, they just aimed a little higher to compensate and BOOM went the terrorists. I think it's an excellent problem and one to not mess with. HMPH!
