The detailing is insane ! For example, working butterfly valves connected directly to the throttle linkage...and look at all the engine and suspension plumbing......nuts !

I'm getting hooked on the Exoto 1/18 stuff since I bought one of their Ferrari 312T4 from eBay. The one I got was their discontinued limited edition (hell, all their stuff are limited stock anyway) winning car of 1979 Watkins Glen GP driven by Villeneuve. It had rain tyres and the detailing on the boxer V12 is superb.

But this Phil Hill 156 just took the cake. That is some crazy level of work put into the car by Exoto. Right now, I'm just mulling whether I should wait on a pre-order for the Italian GP edition or just buy the currently-in-stock Belgium GP model. I'm guessing the only minor difference between the two is a small bit of panelling on the bodywork.

If it weren't for the fact that you can almost buy a real car for the price of one of their models, I'd buy one of their Ford GT40 models. Those are just spectacular!

Actually the 1:18 GT 40's are not that bad, if you wait for a sale and Exoto has them all the time. I got mine for about $150 a couple years ago. Regular price is $400 or so. The 1:10 models are very pricey indeed, $1200 or so.

There are cheaper models to be had from CMC, but the word I got from Exoto is that CMC fell short in terms of accuracy and quality of materials.

The 1/18 CMC Ferrari 156 Sharknose is cheaper than Exoto's by about $100, but Exoto was pretty damning about how CMC got a few things very wrong with Phil Hill's car...scale, proportions, inaccurate body panelling. The guy who replied me actually gave me a comprehensive list of stuff that was botched in the CMC and ended by saying "Exoto eats the CMC Sharknose for breakfast". Notice the two Youtube footage I posted and see how much more details are on the brake rotors/calipers of the Exoto car.

Anyway, I just put in an order for the Exoto Sharknose (Hill's winning car at the 1961 Italian GP). The last 11 units left in their inventory for this version......now 10
