In an unmodified gunship.exe, the AI pilot will pop a flare and the AI gunner will give you a warning when an incoming missile is within a 2km radius. If you’d like to expand that radius up to 4km you can try this mod:

Missile warning adjuster

A flare popped by the AI pilot when an enemy missile is 4km away won't be effective as a counter-measure, but it should serve as a fair enough warning that your helo has been fired upon. A drawback to this mod is that you tend to burn up a considerable amount of flares if you spend a lot of time in the gunner's seat. The AI pilot will keep releasing flares until the threatening missile has been evaded or it has struck your helo.

Some very cursory testing was done, and the thing seems okay to me, but I make no promises.
