The Falcon chicks are much bigger and have started to walk around a bit although they have not yet gotten very good at it and tend to stumble like they were drunk.

One of them seems to be weaker and less active than the others and did not join the others at the last feeding. The mother Falcon made no attempt to feed the chick and it was just laying by itself right outside the enclosure only moving occassionally. We may be seeing an example of survival of the fittest. http://falcons.55water.com/

Is there any possibility someone might go retrieve that chick when momma's away and try to nurse it back?

Shoot, I feel kinda attached to these birds. I'm sure I'm not alone in that.

You are not alone, my wife was getting all upset when one of the chicks wandered too close to the edge and stumbled, almost going over.

We were wondering if someone would remove the chick if it did not survive. I'm sure falcons have a procedure when this happens in the wild but seeing it may not be suitable for some of the younger viewers who I'm sure visit this site.

The young Falcons seem to be doing well and have grown noticeably in the last week. It has got to be a hard job for the mother to feed them enough since they are over 1/2 her size. They are also beginning to get some color in their feathers.

Yeah I see now. Still, that little one tends to outside the enclosure and is not nearly as big as the others. Mom's inside now feeding the big three while the runt is sitting outside.

I know, I'm a worry wart.

The steadiest and I assume the strongest of the chicks is doing a lot of wing flapping and walking around near the edge on the river side. He looks like he is ready to try flight any day.

Skater have you ever seen them try out their wings? They have plenty of height to gain speed taking off but I wonder if they are capable of getting back up from a lower launch point.

The runt is still staying alone and I have seen the others go near him but he does not seem interested in joining them. Fascinating now that they are moving around more.
