Here are some of my shots from this year's show. The lighting conditions were about as bad as you can get without full overcast and/or rain (very backlit and hazy), but seeing all these classic and frequently unique aircraft flying is an incredible experience, and I tried as best I could to capture them.

The theme this year was the aircraft of Grumman, and they had so many different Grumman aircraft there, but nothing newer than just after WWII. They had 5 F8Fs, 3 F7Fs, 2 F6Fs, an F4F and an F3F, three TB* Avengers, and I can't remember the designation, but it was referred to as a Duck.

Plus, they had numerous other historical aircraft not produced by Grumman.

Here's round one of my photos:

Cool shots Ken. thumbsup

The amphibian is a Grumman J2F Duck.

I am going through my shots now.

None of the flybys are any good so far. frown

Thanks Wheelsup!

Bummer about your flybys, but there's bound to be a few good ones in there somewhere, I'll bet. My keeper rate was pretty low, so had to take a gazillion shots to get a few decent ones.

The ones you posted look good.

You can't tell how hazy it was at the show.

I went Saturday and the haze was bad.

Did you go today or Saturday ?

I am still learning with the camera so my loss rate was to be expected.

I went Saturday. I expose at +1/3 of a stop, then pull the levels down in PS and I think that helps counteract the haze some. Doesn't help with the clarity, though, but when downsized and sharpened it's less noticeable.

Plus, I took a ton of shots, and I'd guess that at least 80% of them were not salvageable (most were my fault, of course, not holding the camera steady, etc.).

Here's round 2:

The schedule had the Heritage flight listed as having a P-47 in it, and I was all excited because I've never had the chance to see a P-47 and an A-10 flying together (Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt II, for those not familiar with the aircraft names), but for some reason that didn't happen. I'm not sure why not either, because they had a P-47 there and it flew that day. Maybe something happened and it couldn't go back up, I don't know, but I was kinda bummed.

Ken,

Very nice pictures. I was surprised that the P-47 did not fly with the A-10 as stated in the program. I saw the ground crews fueled up the P-47 but then nothing happened. Something must have happened.

great pictures Ken, you did a great job considering how difficult the conditions were. My local base is supposed to have another show next year and it's a terrible base to shoot from because you shoot into the sun all day long. Plus the runway is too far away... One of those shows where you really just watch and bring the kids which is still fun thumbsup

Great shots all round guys, looks like a heck of a good time. Bearcats and Tigercats, oh my!

Nice to see the AirShowBuzz ad on the F-80. That one of the three Bearcats in formation is of the Horsemen flying.

If you get a chance, check out AirShowBuzz's coverage of the event. Nice pics and stories there as well.

Ken,
some great shots there! I especially like the first one of the Grumman Duck - brings back memories of completing a plastic model of one of those with my dad.

PS/. What's all that blue stuff in the background of your shots? wink
