Wow, looks like a lot of fun. Gotta check my schedule for June though, this spring's put a big dent in my racing time!

There are 22 Corvettes - the rest are only in the Full 'league only' mod

OK - I was pacing myself - it is Endurance racing after all!

#750 / JonC / LM-GT1 Monster Energy Racing C6-R

I will also happily keep the engine running on the same team's #680 LM-P1 R8 - if that field should need a boost in numbers!

Don´t worry too much Doug, there´ll atleast be two guys running, runningdog I just havent decided on a car yet. I would imagine it´s the same for a few others.
Ps
I suppose it would be a good idea to install the 4hr endurance upgrade, since the mod is made for 1.5hr races +- 50 mins with the standard package

Yes! Good point LC.

Also, you may have to alter your profile experience points to grab a prototype.

I think what they said was, set your experience and money to zero. Save the profile, then go in game and get a Corvette. Take it out on a test drive. Enter "ISI_BABYFACTORY" in the comments line.

That will give you all kinds of money and access to any car you want.

yeah oddly enough though, I bought a couple of LMP1 cars to try them out and it gave me a message that I needed some 4600 experience points, while I was happily driving around in the cars dizzy

Yep, 4690 to be exact. But mine never unlocked the prototypes for me until I did the baby factory deal. I tried altering my profile so I had a gazillion dollars and experience and it never registered. Set it back to zero, then baby factory and ka bang. whoptillion dollars and I own every car.

Sounds good. Not had much time for sims lately, as my return to scale modelling has eaten most of my 'hobby time' but I'd never be able to resist some SimHQ Enduro action.

I'll do my best to get some photos for you. smile

Is anyone else getting absolutely dreadful Realfeel FFB effects at this track? I had force feedback problems here when we ran the track in the SimHQ Le Mans Series, and although I wasn't using Realfeel then, I'm beginning to suspect there's something inherently bad about this track on my system.

If the force feedback I'm feeling was like that for everyone, people would be screaming about it, so I'm sure the problem is somehow on my end.

EDIT: just tested at another track, and the problem is still there. At Le Mans the wheel has no feel (like FFB is disabled as far as feeling the front tires goes) but jerks around like crazy, especially on the straights. I tried it at Malaysia on a whim and there there is no jerking, but it still feels almost like FFB is turned off entirely.

Great resource Doug! Got lots of that programmed in my Oregon 300 already, but there are some really handy waypoints to add there.

Thanks,

I don't mean to sound like a broken record, but is it the fact it's on a Saturday that makes it tough for the SimHQ regulars?

If needed it might be worth spreading the word around a couple of other race forums as there's got to be plenty of rfactor drivers interested in a 3hr LeMans. I would race it, but again (barring a downpour and rained off cricket), Saturday is no good for me.

This may, or may not be the same problem I've been having. And it's not the first time. I have a G25 and most of the time it works alright. But I tried one of the prototypes at LeMans and it was worthless. First, the steering was so stiff it was an arm workout just to get it pointed and the FFB was pounding. So fine, off to tweak settings. Then, it was as loose as a goose, just flopped around, no FFB, and again I couldn't begin to keep it on the track. I went about it fairly methodical from there, but still no good result.

I don't know what's going on, but don't feel like the Lone Ranger.

I've mentioned it to a few people over at the ADC and there were a couple of interested parties. However it does overlap slightly with an ADC 'Big Race' which kicks off @ 3:00 PM Eastern US Time (race starts at 4:00) so that would probably rule out some.

I will keep mentioning it to people though. God willing I'm a certainty at this stage.

There is a good 50% chance I can make it to the race. Is there a list of cars I can pick from or do I need to install the mod to see it?

Out of interest, is it worth putting a few AI cars into the race as backmarkers to pad out the field? Just been reading BeachAV8R's review of the 2006 2.4 hrs race which featured 7 AI cars and 6 human drivers, and seeing as the actual race features 55 cars we're certainly down on numbers. I'm not pushing for them either way and I imagine some will be dead against it, but if numbers are a little disappointing it might help to just add a little extra to the race.

I am never in favor of adding rFactor AI, especially in multi-class events. In real life slower yield to faster ones in a usually-predictable manner. In rFactor, not so much, and it would be a shame to see someone punted by AI. They also run in tight packs, resulting in the fact that they don't fill out the field too much.

I really hope more people sign up for this event so that it can take place enjoyably.

New bits for PC arrive before the end of the week (delivery finally confirmed) so I should get my system back up and running over the weekend. Will choose a car and sign up sometime next week. Dont know the mod at all at present so need to turn some laps before making a car choice.

I would suggest that if the numbers remain low the format should go single class.

Sorry I haven't been around since Bathurst. I hope it's OK to drive a Prototype, no problem driving a C6 if you need more GT's.

Sunday is OK for me.

We're trying to get at least one more entry together from the ADC.

Thanks to Jon for mentioning this event, I look forward to racing here again.

Guys, this is just not drawing enough interest. If you plan to race, please add your name. If we don't have about twice as many entries as right now (8) by end of this weekend, I'm going to cancel the event.

I would also like to run this event, I have not been on track here since the JGTC series.

#772 / David Kennard / Vodafone Racing Dome LMP1

I would like to run the Dome for this one but like Anthony above a GT would also work for me if the field needs to be balanced.

Thanks and I hope this event does happen, David K.

Saturday is best for me, Sunday I would be able to run most of the event but I do have a GC league race that same day.

If you want to run the race but haven't determined which car yet, sign up now please.

Unless there are 15-16 entries tomorrow the event will be canceled. Le Mans is too big a track to run with less than 15. Matter-of-fact, if we do get 15-16 drivers, we may still look at some backmarker AIs for traffic. No, I don't like the AIs either but it's better than seeing 3 other cars in 3 hours.

The race will go on as scheduled for Saturday, but... If we have people dropping out and it gets back to 8-9 persons, I will suggest we cancel and reschedule when time is better for more people.

Please...if you have signed-up, SHOW UP. If an emergency happens and you absolutely cannot make the race, please post in the thread you're out.

The other thing I think we need to do is add AI. Three for each of three classes. I can put them at the back of the grid so they will spread out and give them a lower % of efficiency so their role will be as traffic only. I'm not a fan of adding the AI but driving an empty track for three frigging hours is painful.

The AI should have a setup, then. Something that's trimmed out so that they are not chicanes on the straights. I will work on something.

Which engine do we select? I think there is a 1 hour, 3 hour, and 24 hour.

There are 2-hour, 4-hour, and longer. The safe option will be the 4-hour (because we have a 3-hour race). If you are paranoid you can select a longer-life engine.

I think we will be able to qualify on the fastest engine, then exit the server, change engines, and come back in during warmup. This should be tested.

But the 3 hour race is 10x. Do we know for certain time compression doesn't affect the engine?

I've not gone into the game but isn't it an option to make mechanical failures timescaled!?

Yea it's only effected if you choose timescaled mechanical damage.

Right. Since the race details state "normal" mechanical failures, we will get 3 hours of engine wear for this three-hour race, regardless of the time scaling. If mechanical failures were set to "timescaled", then we would need to run a 24-hour engine.

Doug, can we get some word from the boss on permissible engine use during qualifying?

I was on the server a bit yesterday and the FFB still was horrendous. I'm disabling RealFeel for this race (a real shame) and going with the standard FFB. That was horrendous, too, until I did some tweaking in my controller.ini file. Before that the wheel was jerking all over the place and I kept crashing randomly as the rear would go crazy.

In general the Audi is a serious handful in the mod with low wing settings, and it took me about 90 minutes to start putting in laps where I didn't go sliding into the Armco multiple times per circuit. Hopefully I will continue to tame the beast and three hours won't feel like twelve.

Same here!
I´m now down to low FF settings and it is still awful compared to my other sims.
Really thinking about running without any FF settings for this race as 3 h´s with a jerking wheel won´t be fun.

Joe, any chance you could share your controller.ini?
Won´t have much seat time before Saturday and any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yep, will post the values tonight. I tried running with no FFB and just couldn't handle the floppy wheel, so I came up with something that gives me minimal jerkiness and tries to put some resistance in the wheel. I don't know how much it's helping me to feel the car, but I think it's something I can at least become consistent with.

Having done a few laps with them now (I'm in a GT1) I think maybe that having AI LMP cars might not be a good idea. With their shorter braking zones, faster cornering speeds and complete disregard for you even being there it's not a pleasant experience. I would suggest just sticking to packing out the GT1 field with AI.

Here are my FFB settings tweaked for this mod:

Use the 4 hour engine throughout practice, qualifying and the race.

Also, qualifying will be at 8 PM track time. IOWs, dark.

Finally starting to figure out this twitchy b@st@rd of an R8. PB is 3:19.5x. Needed some more rear wing to help keep it planted in the corners.

The server has been loaded with an AI setup for the R8s. I clicked the revs down a bit to make sure it doesn't outrun the humans on the straights. Top speed is about 195mph, and I imagine by raceday the AI C6s will be lapping in the low 3:30s.

Still not sure this is going to work with AI, though. Doug, how are we going to handle a manual formation lap with AI?

Anyone have a feel for boost in the LMPs? The actual numbers in the AudiR8_engine file don't seem to match the descriptions in the file:
EngineBoostRange=(0.01000, 1, 3)
EngineBoostSetting=1
BoostEffects=(250, 0.0825, 5) // RPM increase per setting, fuel increase (1%) per setting, engine wear rate [b](101.5%) per setting
BoostTorque=-0.00100 // 0.4% less torque per setting (applies to all RPMs)
BoostPower=0.00130 // % more horsepower per setting

The car is considerably faster at boost 3, including a healthy dose of increased top speed, so it's important for the race.

Well, I have no idea which car to choose so I'll just make purolater happy and pick:

LMP1 MG-Lola EX264 ILMS Castrol GTX Racing #998

Did a few test laps on server today and noticed the GT-1 AI running in the low 3:31´s.

Is that a time I should aim for in the GT-1 Corvette in racetrim?

Really have no clue. Found no human reference times so far for this car/track combo.

I've noticed they are quick in a straight line. I assume they are using the sprint package for one thing. I'm certainly not enjoying laptimes anywhere near that although I've only just sorted my FFB to my liking.

The AI Corvettes are using 1/7 wing settings. I notched their revs down a bit but they do seem to be able to outrun a human with the same settings on the straight. It is probably due to the 2-hour engine. Perhaps all of the AI will blow up in the third hour, making it more like a real Le Mans. smile

I drove a few laps in the C6.R to develop the AI setup and I believe I recorded a 3:29 lap. Come to think of it, I bet I was using the 2-hour engine as well...

We still have two registrants who haven't picked a car. The race is tomorrow...

I checked my "fast" lap in the Corvette - it was a 3:31.x. This is with very little time in the car, so I would expect I would be able to lap two or three seconds better than that with practice.

I did a test last night and it seems the R8 can last at boost 3, as long as you take care of the revs and keep the oil temp below 105C. So I will be racing at this boost setting. It does have its cooling and fuel consumption downsides, of course.

New PB is a 3:16.0x, which was actually set on worn tires. Now all I have to do is keep it out of the armco tomorrow and I'll be in good shape.

You've got 3 hours to practice during the race and most of the track is 1 long straight wink

It's true, Oqvist. This is a really neat event in conjunction with the real deal. If you are interested in participating this is a good race to jump in on. I say pick a C6.R and learn the track tonight, and come race tomorrow. It's not about being fast, it's about getting a taste for what the real drivers go through in a 24-hour race.

Doing a few laps in the dark with the headlights on, I noticed how restricted the view really is flying down the Hunaudieres straight with 195 mph.

Getting the Mulsanne kink right is quite an experience under these circumstanes and going through the Porsche curves is like entering a black hole.

Is there a tweak to get more out of the headlights?

We are down to 14 cars pending Allar22 signing-up and Oqvist managing some practice time. If we get to 9 cars on the grid tomorrow (including me) I'm going to recommend the race be postponed until people's schedules are better. There will be a Yes/No vote of the attending drivers if the race should be run or not. 9 persons on that track taking the green is boring as hell.

A reminder the qualifying will be at night, and we will have some AI Corvettes in the back of the grid for traffic. If they even think about getting squirrely, I'll pull them.

Our resident master on the headlight settings is LazyC. I'll PM him to see if he can shed some light (sorry) on the topic, but this is an excerpt from one of his posts a long while back, and he was referring to the Fabcar mod. Disclaimer: If you aren't familiar and comfortable with rFactor file editing, modify at your own risk. Be sure and backup any file you edit, test it on the server, wash behind your ears, etc. etc. etc.

-----------------------------------------------

LazyC's comments:

Perhaps it´s the restyle cars that causes the problem, seeing as we haven´t had the problem earlier, and they are the new addition.

Just to follow up on my previous post, you can drop this file: Headlights into the main Fabcar restyle challenge folder and enjoy slightly brighter headlights. That coupled with the numbers chamged:

/------------------------------------Headlights and Tail Lights------------------------------------------------//
//////////////////////////////////////Headlight Projectors/////////////////////////////////////////////
Projector=Headlight
{
Moveable=True Dyn=True Active=False Pos=(0.0, 0.0, -39.0) Dir=(0.0, -.3, -.7) Radius=(15.5) Blend=(InvDstColor, One) Texmap=headlight2.tga

You should be able to see more.

Oh and the name headlight2 changes per mod, but just check the .gen file of any other car to see what the .dds file should be renamed as.

Try changing the blue numbers to these in the .gen file located in the vehicles folder. If you don´t think it´s quite enough light, just remember to change both numbers. one at a time. It takes a few trackloadings to get it right.
It should work with all the cars, since they all share the same numbers and also notice that some vehicle folders have more than one type of car.
It will not make it like daytime but it does help.

I have a problem in that, I changed my wheel settings last night, because the forcefeedback was terrible, and now the throttle and brake pedal are amazing I can brake about 20m later than normal, but the steering is horrible after about 20 degrees lock the car just spins, I can't drive the Audi because thats twitchy at the best of times, also I can't select an MG Lola because it comes up with missing textures, and I can't select anything but an R8 and Vette, in the car selection screen.

Phew

Often this is due to an experience limitation. The ISIBABYFACTORY cheat gives you lot of money, but does nothing for your experience. To edit experience, you need to open the mod's .cch file. The .cch files are found in \rFactor\UserData\[your name]. This mod's file, unsurprisingly, is called ILMS.cch. The first parameter is experience = XXX. Make this some outrageously large number and save your changes.

The server is up and running with 8 drivers online. There is 15 minutes left in official practice.

We will be dropping the AI because they are too erratic.

Well, I hope everyone had fun.

At first my qualy time was resetted after I left within qualifying to use the low FF setting, then I had a disconnection during warmup-lap, which left me smashing my right side.

I entered the pits to have the damage repaired and when I left the pits I was DQ'd, apparently because for the first time ever at LM I crossed the exit line while the traffic light was red.

I need to sleep over this, but considering how much I practiced in recent weeks this is a disappointment of such an extent, that right now I consider quitting online racing for good. In fact, my mood is spoiled in such a way that I think of selling my G25 and rFactor straigt with it. No big deal, I'm too slow anyway.

Im not sure whats the most annoying... the engine blowing up at 2hours 10mins, or going to the fridge afterwards and finding that there are no beers left.

I finished! Well it was tiring, but fun. That track is a beauty through the day night cycle.

Thanks everyone!

Practice

Not much, just an hour before the race starting off with purolaters setup, thanks mate thumbsup

Qualifying

Quite pleased to grab 2nd spot considering my LMP1 was 10-14 km/h slower down the straight.

Race

Started well and took the lead when Joe ran off track, having a good battle with Col Kurtz. Even with boost 3 down the straight he was still catching me, then I would drop the boost for the other sections and pull a little bit of a gap. It went on like that for a few laps before I lost concentration when the player dots disappeared off the timeline, running off the track where Joe did.

I had now lost a few km/h off my top speed due to damage, which got worse as I further scrapped and hit the wall a few times, losing another 10km/h off the engine attack It was incredibly frustrating.

In the end MG-Lola and myself are very happy with taking the last podium position and the fastest lap of the race, giving us encouragement and hope for next year.

Congrats to Joe on the 2nd place and to everyone that finished and thanks to all that participated.

And finally congratulations to LazyC who drove a superb and consistent race, thoroughly deserving the win, well done mate! dance

Whew, that was true endurance.

I got the pole with an insane lap of 3:14.0x. That's about 2 seconds faster than I'd ever gone before, but it was light and we were all expecting dark. In fact, I had my car setup in qually trim for the air temps at 8pm, so I had to open my rad 1 click before qualifying at noon.

The pace lap was a mess because of the rFactor pace car. I had no way to talk on TS, so I was trying to chat and the pace car went really slow through some corners. Eventually I spun while trying to type. Thank you for the restart. I don't know why we didn't just run a manual formation lap...

Once the race started I got away cleanly and right away started pulling a gap. I had a top speed of 205 mph (flicking to 206 very occasionally) and by the end of the first lap I had a 3- or 4-second lead. It all went horribly wrong on the second lap, though. Somehow I missed sighting one of the braking markers into the Porsche Curve, and by the time I realized what was happening I was almost to the escape road. I slammed on the brakes and wound up plowing into the haybales/wall sideways/backwards. I knew as soon as I hit the brakes that it was going to be bad.

Out I came into the traffic, and I tried to slot in safely. However, I didn't know that my rear wing was gone, so the car spun again and I made a big mess with people dodging me. Sorry!

Into the pits I went. No tires, full fuel, fix the damage. The total stop wasn't too bad - 43 seconds spent stationary, I think. By the time I got up to speed again, Ahmad in P1 was 1m17s ahead of me. The gap tp P1 remained pretty stationary for the stint, although I think someone overtook Ahmad.

My accident had lost me about 2 mph of top speed, but that didn't hurt too much. The handling was off, though, which affected me. My car was already very skittish in the approach to Indianapolis, and the damage made it a handful. I must have spun and/or contacted the Armco about 10 times there during the race.

It was fun working my way back through the field. The first two times I came past ktel were unfortunate locations - Porsche Curve and Indianapolis. I performed badly in both case - sorry, mate. Other GT traffic went better.

I was double-stinting LM Medium tires throughout the race. In fact, my first set went longer than that because I kept the set on after the big crash. This saved me 17 seconds every other stop, or almost a minute over the course of the race. I thought at the end I might try triple-stinting a set if I needed to take a risk, but that situation didn't materialize.

At one point I was chasing Anthony Petrakas and we came across a GT car at Indianapolis. Anthony had to brake early and I duck my way past the GT and overtook Anthony. That was really neat.

Over the course of the race I kept making Armco contact that made my car worse-handling and slower on the straights. By the end of the race I had lost 9mph of top speed. I had to move my brake bias forward to keep the rear behind me, and Indianapolis was absolutely atrocious - a wild ride every lap. At the end in came down to me and Ahmad fighting for P2. He must have had a big accident earlier in the race, because he had a long stop and then his pace dropped off. I caught him in the penultimate stint but there was a lot of traffic at Mulsanne Corner and I braked too late and tagged him. I let the gap go back to 2+ seconds (where it was beofre the corner) and then went after him again. The next lap I drafted him on the straight. However, I pulled out a hair too late and actually clipped his car. My car slewed across the track but I managed to save it. Ahmad's car seemed to be on rails, but I have a feeling it was a little more exciting than that in his cockpit. Sorry, Ahmad.

I caught back up and got past him safely (he must have been way down on top speed), then pulled a gap. The same lap, or maybe the next, Ahmad pitted. There were about 36 minutes to go, and I didn't think he could make it. I pitted with 26 minutes to go and took a full tank and no tires. I had a ~15-seocnd gap and basically held it for the rest of the race. Ahmad pitted before starting his last lap, which sealed my P2.

I guess LC had an accident as well, since I was running laps in the 3:22s and 3:23s instead of the 18s and 19s I could do, and he wasn't pulling away nearly that fast. However, I came out of my first stop for repairs down 77 seconds to P1, and finished the race about 140 seconds behind P1. LC deserves credit for his consistency. Congrats.

Overall the race was really fun, particularly since we're running it today. I turned on the TV a few minutes ago to see a Corvette onboard, and knew exactly where on the track it was. Thanks to all who participated.

Too bad, Purolator, that's a really tough brake! I really, really HATE it when that happens.

Unfortunately, we've all been there a time or two. Maybe in the future, it would be nice for the race 'stewards' to nullify such a 'small infraction' by removing the DQ and letting you proceed. I'm not sure that is an option with rfactor server admins, but maybe it is.

Again, too bad, hope it's better with your (hopefully) next race!

Col K, too bad about the fridge. wink

Stev8, sorry you didn't get to race. I'm stuck at work today and I knew I couldn't make it either. Hope you are feeling better.

Congrats to LC!!

cheers

Thanks SpyDoc my back is much better now, this morning i almost signed up to race but decided 3 hours was still to long.

I confess i did do a short Nascar race this evening the first race in 3 weeks for me but that was pretty painfull.

Im thinking of joining the Silverstone race here next week so maybe i can get some practice in to catch up and get on the pace.

Thx for organizing this event!

Congrats to all finishers and the class winners! smile

Happy with my performance, as my goal was to finish.
It was getting very close at the end to bring the car to the line because of a few brainfarts in those last laps.
But entering the dark again was really killing me at this point.

Had no clue about the strategy beforehand but decided to go with one set of hard tyres as long as possible. That made for 3 quick stops without taking tyres or repairing any damage, but that was definitely one stint too long for the tyres. Went with mediums on my last stop.
Aero damage was lowering my topspeed by 10 km/h by then, but that was still acceptable.
If it weren´t for those last 2 laps, I would be one complete happy camper! wink

Didn´t like that formation lap behind the pacecar. Too much hassle. Let´s do it manually next time.

I think it was set up that way to accommodate AI, then we dumped the AI.

One of the coolest things about this race was seeing headlights reflecting off of the Dunlop tire. I would see these as I entered Dunlop Corner without realizing there was lap traffic just ahead. A nice bonus was that the GT headlights are yellow in this mod.

Things started bad, I joined the server with about 15 mins of qualy left but found I was suffering from that really annoying air gun type sound loop that crops up now and then. Dont know why as everything was fine on Friday and I had changed nothing, not touched rFactor since Friday. I lost any practise, qualy time remembering which file to remove to get rid of that sound as there was no way I could race for 3 hours with it banging through my headphones.

The pace lap was my first lap of the circuit since Friday night so was glad it went at a fast pace, quite a chage for an AI led pace lap.

Unfortunately my lack of track time before the start hurt, I made some stupid errors in the first couple of laps that resulted in my top speed reducing by about 10mph costing boat loads of time down the Mulsanne straight.

I must also apologise to Adlabs for the first lap shunt, your braking point before the Ford chicane really caught me out as it was much earlier than mine.

Couple of things I learnt, I suck in the dark, 3 hours is an awfully long time to sit infront of my PC in a virtual race. I must be mad as I actually enjoned the event..

Was a good tough race. Happy to make it to the end and with the extra bonus of passing a limping Nimrud on the last lap for P1 in class. To be honest though until that point I was never going to challenge, Nimrud was too good, as usual smile

Congrats to LC for a great win, to Joe who was on fire all through, and to all who finished.

Thanks for organising smile

Ah was it you who caught my rear left fender heading into the chicane? I was so surprised by the incident and frantic to get the car back on track, I never saw a name tag! So I never knew who to say a quick 'sorry' to.

No worries on that in any case, as you mentioned my early breaking point certainly contributed in a big way.

Tough luck Purolator. Doug was having power problems, and was actually offline when you needed a restart. I tried to call him, but he wouldn't have been able to do a reset anyway.

I really enjoyed the Le Mans experience while it lasted. The camera flashes were pretty cool in the slower turns, but like ktel, I wish that there was someway to kill the mechanic's loop. Maybe replace a file or something.

My setup was really bad. Top speed was 209 MPH, but the car was _way_ too twitchy with oversteer. The slightest mistake sent me into the armco, which was not good for an endurance race. Still, until it got dark I had been lucky enough to do only minimal damage.

In the dark and fairly quickly, I wished that I would have paid more attention to those discussing the headlight mod. How anyone can find themselves daydreaming at 200 mph approaching a braking zone is beyond me. Well, maybe I can because that happened to yours truly a couple of times which result in some unplanned body modifications. Finally I plowed into the wall in T1 hard enough to completely remove the front end. Nakajima would have been proud. If you want to see a car fly, watch around lap 27 and me go over the hump at 204 (car is faster without nose) almost doing the flying Benz act. whoohoo Once replaced, I could only do 198 and had a now worse handling car.

Like most, I wanted to bring the car home hoping for some attrition, but then my left front brake decided to call it a day. Such is the drama of Le Mans.

Congrats to the class winners. When can we do another LMS type race again?

Thanks for the encouragement and congratulations to all who participated.

I cooled down a bit by now, but I stick to my decision insofar, that for the time being I better refrain from online racing, as I need an attitude change.

Since after weeks of practice I begin to take setbacks like this way too serious (and this is neither healthy nor something I can enjoy then) and practice is something I need, I better practice my general skills in offline mode for the time being, instead of being deeply frustrated if a race goes all wrong like yesterday. Since I stay offline the G25 and rfactor will stay. Next week I can't participate in F1 1988 anyway, as I'll be on a festival.

One day I'll be ready to rejoin and I will look for upcoming races or series and carefully decide then if I really have time, really want to and are generally able to join or not.

Thanks to everyone who supported me on and off track - Ahmad, Vikz, Pierre1, PapaK, Stev8, SpyDoc, LacyCrust, Chipwich, AMK, Andrew1988, and most notably Doug, who always shows tremendous support. And I apologise to everyone else whom I have not included here.

Good luck all and enjoy the races.

purolator,
The more you race, the better you'll get and the less any one disconnection or crash will bother you.

I'd suggest getting LFS or iRacing where you can do decent casual/pick-up races during the week.

Best of luck!

Sounds like a good race. Shame I couldn't make it.

And Chris is right. The more you race, the better you get. You do have to learn, especially when starting out, to race against yourself rather than anyone else on the track. I'm still trying to make my first goal of a whole race without any mistakes (I was so close at the Turkish GP, and in the end I was happy as I was putting out some good consistent PBs after my final pitstop). I don't really care where I finish when I do it, but if I can manage that I'll know I couldn't have gone any faster on that day. Then just take it from there.

Interesting you mention the almost-flip, Chip. As son as you said on TeamSpeak that you lost your splitter, I knew that was going to happen.

I had the same thing happen with an intact car. I was drafting a Corvette as we came over the hump, and my car got a lot lighter in the front than most laps. Nice modeling, and it caught me by surprise.

Purolator,

I think we've all had those @!#(&%^ you've got to be kidding me moments at SimHQ or other online races. For me it was the GP79 race at Silverstone, 80% damage where I crashed out of P3 with less than 5 minutes remaining. I sat in the car for a full minute after I had torn off a wheel and blown my engine trying to limp across the track to pit-in (so close it was right there) just thinking to myself "man, I simply can't believe that happened." It was a race for which I had practiced a lot and was confident driving my car.

But as others have said, that's racing - real and simulated. Shake it off, keep practicing, and we hope to see you back. And remember, even Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa don't see the red light all of the time. smile

Silverstone 2008 - First F1 win - stoked!
Silverstone 1979 - First F1 retirement on LAP 1 - gutted! For sure the biggest disappointment since I started sim-racing.

Must push on, what will Silverstone 1988 bring? Only one way to find out, join us purolater!

Guys, thanks for your support, but for the time being I really need to stay on hiatus. At least as long my attitude problem is not satisfactory solved.

The tantrum I threw when I was DQd at LeMans was unacceptable. If it comes to actually throwing things around and yelling like a madman, because a flawed online racing experience gets so badly under my skin, then something is wrong. Luckily my girl was not around.

Doesn't matter if I practised for weeks, if things go so badly wrong I need to keep my cool, and this wasn't the case at LeMans.

In smilies: sigh = fine, taz = bad . And that is my major task at hand now, not my subpar driving.

Besides, when the Silverstone race is coming up on sunday (19:00 my time) I'll be here, I purchased the ticket weeks ago.

But it's a hiatus, and not a retirement. So one day I'll be back. Could be in winter, could be earlier.

Unfortunately I didn't feel better. I was appalled at myself after I changed back from being the Hulk.

You expressed it differently, but that's the state of mind I'd like to achieve. The faster I manage to develop that attitude, the faster I'll be back on the server.

Purolator, enjoy your simracing timeout, i've not been able to race for about 3 weeks and surprisingly i enjoyed it too and i might not spend so much time racing anymore. When you start taking it to seriously its probably a good idea to take a step back.
