hi. when i get radar contacts in say radar TWS mode sometimes the triangles ( locked targets ) flash red. what does that mean ? thanks.

flashing red is when the radar is loosing return image and does not have enough data to display the contact’s telemetry. If it continues to loose image quality it will be displayed like a RWS contact(square)and may drop off the scope.

It happens when the contact puts you on his beam. This is a combat maneuver is called notching, doppler drop lock, beaming, etc.

STT seems to help maintain lock and makes it harder for the bandit to break lock with a notch. Setting narrow radar sweep will collect information faster and re/acquire telemetry if the contact is inside your the radar search cone.
