Here is my second attempt at making a video. Still lots to learn. Next week I hope to create one with real sound tracks. Till then, check this one out.

Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_56AfGZgzwQ

Enjoy!

THAT.....was a great video and a hell of a lot of work. Good work taking the different points of view instead of the usual ones. I kept thinking..."he's going to do all that work then smack the fantail." I never thought of that gimmick for showing the trap.

Itīs hard to make a good vid because the lack of a record funktion in Thirdwire engine.

Keep it coming, mate! Can we have sound effects in the next vid? :-)

Nice video swift,

if you don't mind I'd like to give some pointers, some of them come from my personal experience, others are tips other people told me when I released machinima.

1. avoid mouse panning
2. get rid of the screen captions (speed, communication)
3. buy Fraps - it's not that expensive and you won't be hindered by the time limit (and the top caption)
4. cuts - you use fancy cuts between shots. I'd suggest using straight cuts or quick fade-in's and fade-outs. Unless you want to mimick the star wars cut system
5. if you are adventerous, you can start modding your copy of WOV/YAP with extra views (check www.combatace.com). There are tricks to add or modify views (ie cameras hanging under wings)

Off course the biggest issue is that WOV/YAP does not offer much support in mission recording and creating compelling stories might mean breaking mission apart to get better shots.

If you want to see the possibilities of camera editing, check this movie of mine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwIccMkzhZw&feature=channel_page

Just keep in mind, that (from my experience) its hard to combine movie making with flight simming, since both require a different approach to the simulation.

Your controls are already modified for extra views in the Photo Recce Mod. If you want to do that, just open and look. It all makes sense. But if you then open your Options and fiddle with your Controls, the game goes to Default settings. Keep that in mind when suddenly all your adjustments disappear.

Thanks for all the tips from the YAP community. Like I said earlier this is only my second attempt at making an game play video. I'm not going to "tinker" with any files in my YAP2 since the game is very stable and I am very happy with it "as is". But I'm definitely going to use other tips as for the presentation of the video. I like to keep things simple even if it means alot of editing and flying the same mission over and over again.

Thanks again to the YAP community and keep those tips coming as they are very helpful to me. smile

You put some effort into that video and it shows. I really liked that you grabbed some clips from the ground perspective.

If you don't want to purchase Fraps you can use the demo effectively and edit out the caption on the top with a free program like virtualdub

http://www.virtualdub.org/

Most of the time, if you are setting your work to music then work on three to four second clip times, with four seconds being ideal. Find the meter to the music and try to make transitions along with the beat. It really adds to the experience for your viewers.

Here is a machinima music video I made awhile ago.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fc2wLnycDkA

This was my first attempt at what you did. The tips I'm giving you are the same ones that were given to me. Of course I had the luxury of using the Il2 engine and the track replay which allowed me to get the camera and the shot exactly like I wanted when recording with Fraps. One has to work much harder with something like Thirdwire titles.

I hope this helps. Keep trying and keep up the good work.
