The game does have some issues and is not well supported, but I like it, there is also a B5 mod, an old BSG mod and some others, very mod friendly game and has a good campaign.
Cat has a review of the older version on SHQ somewhere, pretty much plays the same, the newer version has much better graphics. Wow, I didn't know anybody on here still played this one! Can't forget the unfinished Star Wars mod that French crew started a few years back too. Thanks for helping spread the word about one of my favorite space sims!

I actually find the "vanilla" version of StarShatter really good by itself. It's got a pretty deep back-story to it if you read all the "News Flashes" and Intel reports in the game. The graphics might not be as "purdy" as some would like, but I think it represents the "Falcon 4.0" of Space-Sims.

Thanks Harry,
Hey, what about the music? The readme file mentions something about the music folder, but I don't see that anywhere. I do have the sounds folder in the right place and can hear those fine, but I'd love to hear Bear McCreary's soundtrack when using the mod.
Thanks bud, Starshatter is a fun game! Music is a seperate download... 2nd from the bottom here... http://www.starshattermods.com/downloads.php?cat_id=3

There is apparently some sort of problem with the campaign crashing with version 5.02a, so I'm still runnung 5.01, haven't bothered with 5.03a yet.

Yeah, I remember a whole thread about that- especially since 5.03a was just a beta release without any further support from Matrix or Destroyer. I never had a problem getting 5.02 to work myself- I'll run a search and see if I can get back to you with a fix. I love the Newtonian physics, and being able to take the helm of a huge capital ship as well as just fly around in a tiny fighter.

I'm at day 10 of Operation Highland. The fleet has taken some pretty heavy losses, don't know if can make it. I've got enough rank to grab a frigate, don't know if want to do that, may stick with Thunderbolts and hunt down all the remaining Baikals and Tigers first.

That was what I always did until I had the rank necessary to command a DD or CA. If you're commanding a Frigate you're just waiting for everybody to blow you out of space.

Finally finished Operation Highland. We came out maybe 2 ships ahead. Last ride: the Shadow-class destroyer Necromancer. I had taken command of a frigate and another shadow and both got destroyed, this was the last ship in its DesRon left. I took out the Gladius(a Broadsword-class destroyer) with it, but had 50% hull damage. After that I scouted around illuminating suspected enemy ships with probes and then watched the fireworks as fighter/bombers took them out. You can just see the CVBG in the background, the big ship is the Archon.

Awesome! I remember reading your initial AAR/ review was what convinced me to go out and buy TGS. It's a shame there's not a more active community for that game, but I think awareness was a huge problem too.
