That is the point of the video, it's a technology demonstration using CUDA and not at all meant to be like a flight sim in terms of realism.

CPU - i7-3770K @3.50Ghz, RAM - 32Gb (800Mhz), Video Card - GTX980Ti

that looks ridiculous and a direction toward arcade players

You miss the point rabu, which is that those 1024 aeroplanes are AI therefore there's a huge amount of calculation going on to move them around, never mind collision avoidance over all planes, and on top of that the planes are using a flocking algorithm

Flocking algorithms are very hot and are used to simulate passengers getting out of a crashed plane, they are used to predict passenger and vehicle flow within cities, for virtual armies in combat sims, for any scenario where individual objects have an attraction to similar objects - but 'Keep Your Distance!' must not collide with them. Towards more realism, more naturalism.

The PhysX API has a 'hardware collision detection over all objects in a scene' function

Therefore it's possible that NVidia are developing PhysX and so CUDA for more realistic simulations. That's what we're after

So while that clip may look nothing special to you, if you know what you're looking at it may look quite different if you can see massed Heinkels heading for London's Docklands in your mind's eye

Or 'Texas Massacre: Curse of the Killer Bees' try that. Ok now does that make sense Smile2

If that's what they told you it would make sense, I haven't seen any other explination from them though, have you?
That's why I said, "maybe they are just trying to show a unrestricted number of planes in the air and how the game engine can avoid collisions, not at all realistic or historical though."

Anyway, I hope you are right. I would hate to see this go in an arcade direction.

1024 aeroplanes would make a megaflock, wouldn't it?

The opinions of this poster are largely based on facts and portray a possible version of the actual events.

Do you think I need one or was it you

I have no idea if you are concerned about it, I am though and I hope others will voice their concerns that we don't want them going in an arcade direction.

The announcer in the demo said, "We wanted to bring some of the chaotic air battle scenes, seen in the movies to the game" I hope that isn't an objective as that would be an arcade direction in my opinion.

He also said, "In this demo we show 1024 planes flying around in a typical game environment." Again, I hope he meant they were exaggerating the number of planes only to show the ability of the CUDA system.

It's not an ROF video... surely that's very, very obvious?

Yes it's obvious. And don't call me Shirley.

Duly noted, but can you fly a Fokker, and land it?

You've got to concentrate...concentrate...concentrate...
