thanks for implementing that suggestion!

cool pics - I really like the way the overcast layer looks in this game; nice and foreboding.

did you ever think about putting these missions together for a little mini-campaign? Even though it might seem "small" at 5 or 6 missions, it would still be good I think to have them packaged together and played through in order, rather than as individual missions. Maybe you had planned on doing that after all your fine tuning?

thanks again.

hey speck,

let me know how the static works, it's a short burst, just to get your attention, and please let me know other impressions as play 'em. The first two are pretty hard to really "win". If you are still alive when Gali gets shelled or Ochamchira is taken, you are doing very well. The last three are hard too, but can be "won". I think my favorite is "Kochara". I tried to give each a distinct flavor and feel unique to the task and situation.

for a mini-campaign I think you would need a minimum of 15 missions, otherwise you get the repitition going---you have to play the same missions you lost earlier. Maybe it could be done with 10.

My first real mission was Foothold, also on the same thread, I think I put 20 hours in it--try that one sometime!

ty again for your input.

wing damage in "foothold"

I see your point about having more missions for a campaign, even a "mini" one, it makes sense. Just was thinking it could help pull you into the story a bit more instead of having to go to the mission list and try to remember which was the next one to play in order. Not that big a deal of course, will just remember to write down the order they should be played.

I'll try and play a bit tonight and report back on the static sounds - I'll also try and give more feedback about the missions. Although I might be too busy concentrating on not crashing, not shooting friendlies, and not spinning around in uncontrollable circles to give much useful feedback!

Very nice work. However, I am lost in Kalifornia without a special decoder ring. I can do .ZIP and .WAR, but have yet to access .MIR. I wandered about the web and did find some clown who would sell me a special file converter. But I am a smarter clown who knows there must be some easy to use decoder ring. HELP

SWITCHBACK SP mission.

Brief:

For the past seven days, Russian forces have been pouring into South Ossetia, according to local sources, though Russians deny this and bad weather prevents satellite surveillance. The Georgian defense pact with Turkey has been triggered, and allied Turkish and Georgian forces are fortifying the border with South Ossetia.

The main thrust is expected thorugh Gori as in August 2008, however this morning we lost all contact with observers in Oni, on the western border of South Ossetia. Gori is now heavily defended, so there is a chance the Russians will move through Oni, using the mining roads.

Since Oni has not been heard from, this possibility is increasingly likely, and we are moving to forces to the town above Lake Terjoli, Tkibuli, and sending artillery to the village on the lake itself in case the Russians decide to come over the pass from Shaori Lake.

Our units:

Wolfpack, our main battle group, equipped with leopard tanks is now in route to Lake Terjoli and will continue at least to Tkibuli.

Puppydog, our artillery units, are now nearing Lake Terjoli, ahead of Wolfpack.

Hounddog, a light attack force is now crossing the pass west of the lake and will proceed up the valley to Tkibuli.

Bulldog, consisting of two CH47s and special forces units is in route to reinforce the light defense forces already present in Tkibuli, and will be standing by in the unlikely event we need to evacuate Tkibuli.

Cobra is your support now fueling on the new FARPs at the south end of Lake Terjoli consisting of two AH1Ws. They will be standing by in case things take a turn for the worse.

Your mission: fly to waypoint 2, then proceed up the valley to Tkibuli and provide security for Hounddog and Wolfpack.

This all sounds and looks very interesting. But I am having a problem getting from Sun Valley to South Ossetia because of the .MIZ files. What tools are available to translate this into an accessible format like .ZIP or .RAR?? The coalition forces need your guidance here too.

hiya 5555 -

all you have to do is drop the file into your

\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\Missions

folder and you'll be all set. The ".miz" isn't a file to unpack, it's the actual mission file. When you look in the \Missions folder you'll see all the other missions have the ".miz" after the name.

TY speck, sorry 5555, I did not understand you at first, speck is right: it's the raw mission file, put it missions folder.

v2 of switchback is up

Cobras will scramble now, comms a bit cleaner.

hi uhoh6 -

had a chance to play around with some of the missions tonight, the static sound seemed to work just fine, thought it was helpful.

As far as the missions themselves, I wish I could give you detailed feedback but it turns out I need some basic air to air practice first! Spent the majority of the first two missions trying to knock down the enemy helos, mostly without success. Think I'll have to come back to these (at least the ones with lots of enemy air engagements) when I get a better handle on things.

One thing I was wondering, do you notice when playing that your wingman's audio will go out after a while? At first during these missions I heard a lot from him, especially seeing as I was calling for him to engage bandits whenever one popped up. But as the mission continues I heard less and less from him (but he was still alive and kicking, I could see the text of the messages in the corner). I've noticed this happens sometimes (not only with your missions, in general I mean).

Just wondering if you've ever noticed it, since you must play a lot of these missions for testing and stuff.

Hey speck,

I do notice that from time to time also.

If the helos are totally driving you crazy, you can quickly dumb them down.

Open mission in ME, locate enemy helos on units list, go to "begin loop" waypoint, hit target button, then uncheck "helicopters". Then they won't bother you unless you are really really in their face.
They are easy to shoot down then.

Otherwise, I send my wingman after them if there arn't too many SAMs, then I move to their flank and attack.

It can take many missles to get a hit.

You can also take away their AGTMs, and they they have to real close to you.
