They are not suppose to. Those tanks were expensive and Hun pilots rarely punched em off.
You might miss the tanker meet and you'll need that fuel.

I undertood that pilots did this choice, not drooping the tanks for the reason that you said.
But probably USAF doesnīt turn off the POSSIBILITY of to jettisson the tanks.
Imagine you sitted in a pig like the hun facing enemy migs AND carrying external tanks that cannot be dropped.
"Bring those tanks home or die,officer,they are too expensive!"

Actually, it's based on what the guys accurately did in Vietnam. And yeah, they're still expensive and yeah, they still try to come home with them.

TRYING to bring them home doesnīt mean not to be able to jettinson them in case of emergency or to dogfight.
Sorry , but I canīt believe that USAF was so dumb in the Vietnam at the point of LOCKING a drop tank in the plane.
The fighter itself was more expensive than the drop tank don't you think?
In many occasions USAF pilots had to drop not the tanks but everything in the plane to save a damaged aircraft or even only to be able to eject in a area where they had more chances to be rescued.
This is a bug or a developer decision, but I will no accept this as "real life" thing.

Lets put it this way. The Yankee Air Pirate Huns are as they are.

At the same time, we totally respect your choice to change what you will with your game.
I suggest you add to, or replace the YAP F-100's with another of your choice.

Well interesting - I'm not the expert here - a lot of pilot accounts from that era seem to involve jettisoning tanks - particularly Israeli Jet pilots! However I suppose its included here to force a point I guess.

Fair enough.If this is a developer decision, let us know, period.
This way I will not be concerned about if this is a bug and if can be fixed.

You did not normally jettison your fuel tanks. Tanks were jettisoned but it was less than usual. Our planes have both capabilities. We keep the capability when the mission will involve Migs. I flew 238 combat missions with wing tanks and centerline tanks. By WOV standards, I would have jettisoned 500 370-gallon wing tanks...sometimes just to go fight 30 miles down the road...right through the roof of someone's house. Didn't happen.

Punch off your tanks, you had better have a good reason. Punch off the pylon's, answer to the crew chief on your way down the ladder.

We can rig them to give the capability to the player but we won't give it to the AI airplanes. Watching a Hun or a Spad dropping their tanks to bomb is an hilarious thing to see.

The easiest way to get what you want is simply to edit the F100D_DATA.INI file in \Objects\Aircraft\F-100D. Open the file in a simple text editor like Notepad and scroll down to the section labeled...

// Weapon Stations --------------

At the bottom of each numbered weapon station that can carry an external fuel tank, look for this line:

NoJettisionTank=TRUE

Either change the value to FALSE or delete the line entirely. Other aircraft in YAP2 have the same restriction, including: all A-4s, all F-100s, all F-4s, and all F-105s. If you wish to change those as well, simply find the corresponding DATA.INI file for each aircraft and edit as described above.

Best,

Eric L. Howes
