I do hope a gamma setting in the game setup, for choosing oneself the colors rendition

Neoqb do seem to have everything covered so fingers crossed for gamma and maybe even colour saturation. The terrain looks very beautiful

Yes quite a shock to see this exciting SimHQ preview before the end of February, it looks as if we're going to get all we've been wishlisting for

Animated hammer on the machine gun lovely Smile2

S/L pennants, streamers and dragwire aerials <runs away>

Thanks SimHQ!

Keep in mind I was doing the panning with the mouse and didn't have much time in the bird. As other flight videos have shown, such as the net code clip, panning around can be quite smooth with a TrackIR system.

Good review. Really looking forward to this.

Question for Guod, "was TrackIR support not ready in the preview version that you had to use the mouse for panning?"

Well...I'll be damned! This is really about to happen. Pretty exciting. One thing. That little movie said "Rise of Flight, 1917." That Fokker DVII would make it 1918, but what the heck!
This may be that rarest of animal. The game, or sim, that is actually better than you thought it was going to be!

The ROF team appear to be well ahead of what they have told us, and 1917 seems like it is starting.

Eg, the N17 maybe part of the Russian release.

Russian release will include N. 17" ....Gr.Viper

Nieuport 17! Don't tell me that. It's my favorite First World War airplane. Is there anyone on the dev team I can plead to? I didn't think we were going to see the earlier war models for a while.
I may have to move to Russia.

N.17 will be a free bonus for Russians but the plane will be available in the online store as well.

Fair enough. We can all accept the devs being patriotic, right?

I'll certainly buy the Nieuport 17. It looks fantastic.

The aspect looks strange in the dogfight vid, Is it wrong for everyone or just me?

All the gauges are oval top to bottom and I get black bars to the sides of the screen. 22inch WS, 1680x1050 btw.

I thought the planes looked a little squashed, but assumed it was some aspect or transfer thingo.

Buy early, buy often!

Mogster, looks like there's a bit of "fish eye" magnification on the periphery.

It looks like the whole view is squashed here, the instruments are oval. Now I've played it again the F DVII looks squashed in the lighting vid as well. Maybe the original was made in a strange res.

The developer videos look fine.

It is because a wide-angle view has been chosen. Peripheral objects then have somewhat distorted shapes. I surmise that any viewing angle can be chosen...

Yeah, if the N17 is available, for purchase ,as soon as the sim comes out...I'm buying it the same day I pick up the sim. SE-5, too! Two must have airplanes for me.

As Freycinet says... wink

Just to be clear, my purpose of pulling back on the dogfight cockpit view was to show the wider aperture and the various cockpit mechanisms in flight. In the other extreme, you can move in to scrape your nose on the cowling if you like. It is very adjustable. Or as I said in the article, "Using the mouse and wheel you can pan around, look up and down, move forward and back."

The video was captured with a 720 width that follows my 1280x800 aperture, but WMM set it to a 640 width, so there is a slight squaring of the two videos. Also the reason for the black bar at the bottom. I need to load my copy of Adobe Premiere again. wink

"If you don't have a TrackIR yet, you'll want to get one before your first dogfight in RoF, or grow an additional arm and hand for the mousing mobility"

What about hat switches? Specifically, can you create custom views to take advantage of 6DOF? Personally I can't ever see myself justifying the price of track IR (nearly $400 here in New Zealand) and have always used a joystick hatswitch. The only thing I need is to be able to customize head position for each view. For example in IL2, ideally the rear view would be offset to one side of the seat. In a WW1 plane it is actually much less of a problem, the main obstruction is the upper wing, so really just need a modifier button (s) to move the head position forward and back. Combine this with a up/down modifier to tilt the head up and down (this is what I use in IL2) and I can look anywhere I want in a split second.
