Awesome! Great reading and videos.

Can't wait for this title to be on my computer.

Can we have a screenshot of the cockpit view used for aiming with the gunsight?
As the large view seems not so practical for a precise aiming and shows of course geometrical distorsions (I do hope that the standard view will be around 43mmm, the focale of the human vision).

Nice preview, thanks, I've been looking forward this title and it does look really good, I agree the terrain looks spectacular particularly against the "toytown" appearance of IL-2, just hope there's some longevity in the thing gameplay wise.

Red Baron and Red Baron 3D weren't Microprose sims. They were Dynamix/Sierra.

Quick bit of pedantry before reading the rest.

Guod, my Stahlhelm is off to you, that was a superb review. Great professional-quality writing, very polished and focusing on the essentials. You kept it taut and relevant, just the kind of writing that fits a game site and on-screen reading. Kudos.

Great looking article and the preview has given me a better understanding of how the game will flow. RoF sounds like a great game and I wish the developers luck in the final stages of getting this out to a fairly impatient audience. Regards,
Derek

Great article!

The dogfight video was very impressive. Graphics, light shading, sound, etc. Fun to watch.

Calendars are nice, I liked the "Hat in the Ring" shot best, but they're all good.

guod - I hate you. Why do you get to play this while we sit in the dark and moan and gnash our teeth?! Bstard!:)

Good review, the game looks fantastic. I am all a-quiver.

You mentioned it needs lesser specs in WinXP. I have Core Duo 2.66GHz RAM, E670 Motherboard and a 256MB nVidia 8600GTS That's some distance shy of the requirements. It's a pretty good PC really - I only bought it last year! Does anyone have any ideas on:
A) Will RoF run at all?
B) If it does run, will it be playable and sexy?

I appreciate that no-one really knows yet, but those requirements are pretty hefty and it'd be a shame (and limiting to the market) if they were the minimum specs.

Hi FlatSpinMan,

I think we will just have to see once we get closer. Thought I was all set until I read VikS' comment in the forum about the performance increase from quad-core! wink

congrats on a fine review. I'm looking forward to RoF being released in the near future. But might I ask one little favor? Since you have the beta build, is it possible to hook up a trackIR and give us a bit of video using that? No, it's never enough. That's why I ask! biggrin

They go to the trouble of multi-threading their application, then make this statement. That's rather inexcusable considering the prevalence of 64-bit CPUs at this point.

The sim looks absolutely beautiful, and a good damage model makes it a lot of fun.

Can't say i like the Walleye view from the cockpit, but the lighting and scenery are awesome.

Great write up Doug.

Thanks for the article, is short but is the evidence of RoF is real work and rest little job for release this great sim.

I hope write other article with more complex analisis, and with more pics and videos biggrin

Then there was something I have never seen included before in a flight sim. Soon as I saw it I thought, "Of course! Why didn't someone do this before?" You can adjust the machine guns convergence point with a visual slider. Brilliant!

Ejem, IL2 have conversion adjustable neaner

Yes, but the adjustment is not controlled via a visual interface.

Thanks ST.

Just to be clear, my purpose of pulling back on the view was to show the wider aperture and the various cockpit mechanisms in flight. In the other extreme, you can move in to scrape your nose on the cowling if you like. smile It is very adjustable. Or as I said in the article, "Using the mouse and wheel you can pan around, look up and down, move forward and back."

Takes along time to develop a sim of this nature. They may have started awhile back. At least its multi=threaded.

Doug: Very nice review! Can you elaborate, or compare, or convey, how it "felt" to fly a WWI aircraft compared to say flying the BlackShark sim? ie., great flight model of modern day aircraft compared to wooden frame.
