Hi everyone,

I've been busy in my secret lab working on the new silver interface for EECH. This all started with my desire to change the map icons. Something a little smaller than the default ones. As time went on my desire to change the colors of the map interface came into play. The default colors to me would be great in a space sim, but have never felt right for EECH. So thats how the silver interface came about. Next was the map key, the right side bar which toggles icons, radar,etc.. on the map. My design has evolved into the follow....

Sweet Huh?

Here is also a short video..its not the best quality..but you'll get the point.

Maybe i can get this up for download by this weekend.

Hi LeadPaint,

let me share my view with you.

First of all, this is my opinion, and hopefully I am constructive.

My main point of view: If we are talking about a campaign map, its a tool, it has to be functional, and pretty.

- Icons
I love them. They are much smaller but recognisable, giving clear overview of the situ.
Perfect!

- Silver interface
I like it. Makes the whole thing a bit more serious, less cartoonish.
For me it should be darker since its not the main attraction.

- Colorful icons on the right side
I do not like them. Not functional. The originals were quite ok.
These are tools, for me they should be simple functional, pretty.

If I were you, I would redraw the original icons.

But that is me, let's hear the others.

And one more thing, thanks for the work!

I agree, the new interface is superb, but the older icons (on the right side) were more adequate and serious, parharps you could make a "silverized" version of them?.

I gotta agree with Staniol and Alemart...

The map icons are top notch! The new color scheme is subdued and very professional looking!
But, the map toggles are too stylized and distract from the overall militaristic look. I liked the old ones better and would prefer it if they get worked into the new color scheme, too.

Here is a modified version of the default key with a green overlay for active selections.

Just know that the whole campaign interface consist of three parts.
The map icons
The map interface
The map key

So you choose which parts to install. I will include both sets of the map key so the choice is up too you on which one to use.:)

Very good on that, i guess that way people can have the interface they prefer.

That last shot looks terrific.

If you ever have the time would you be do kind as to give a quick run down on what files you changed for the different elements? For instance if someone wanted to make the interface text look more MFD green, what files need editing, etc. Not asking for a tutorial, just to get pointed in the right direction.

Thanks

Donavon

I am a sucker for a little flash - I love the picture icons on the side. smile

One idea for you - perhaps make it even more Microprose-ish and make the black background something similar to say a briefing tent with a screen holding the map, etc. That might be overboard but it would complement the added air you have already added to the sim. I never have liked the black on the background on this screen.

Thanks for your work. smile

I'm not sure on the text and its colors. This is most likely done in the code. Someone like Arneh would have to answer that question.

Once again, i'm not sure how the black background is generated. I have yet to find a image file for it.
