Not sure if this has been talked about before here on board, but it bears mentioning again.

This is the BEST General Aviation aircraft you can get. There are little to no avionics (not IFR rated) and yet the systems modeling is as deep as with any widebody addon.

Ever damaged an engine starter, got bubbles in the fuel lines or had an in-flight engine fire? With this thing, you will.

I only started using it yesterday, but damn it's amazing.

I'll second that, one of the best addons ever. I think it makes you feel like you actually own the aircraft, you have to take care of it, it's limits, maintain it etc.

Me yes, and Kosmo too from his latest reply in another thread.

Kosmo, you're also a bit of a Digital Aviation fan? With the Katana, Cheyenne and Dornier my collection is now pretty complete, and you can literary see how they improved their skills with each release.

It is visually externally and from the VC on par, but has less custom programmed "non-standard FS9" functions. The only thing I can think of right now is the ability to program channels into the radio, and the hobbsmeter that memorizes your flown hours even after restart. It has a working GPS in VC, but that's not a first, and a very nice styled HTML Reference chart.

The flight dynamics are also quite right and fit the original performance charts very closely.

It's a nice little GA aircraft alright, just that the Cheyenne and Dornier have more "extra features" (like the Trimble or the mechanical failures). And the Katana has a bit of VC redraw/texture loading performance hit when you switch views, which I haven't seen that pronounced in their later releases.

For me the Katana is THE austrian general aviation aircraft, so it was a must buy. Much better than the default Cessna or Baron for flying around, and much easier to handle than the Dornier (less complicated checklists for start & stop...)

I love the Do-27 in FS9. They ported it to FSX but there are some issues with it there, and the original designer doesn't want anything to do with it. Too bad - most problems should be easily solved if DA had access to the source files.

How bad are the issues in FSX? I have both versions so if I eventually decide to swap...

Small kick... I've flown it again in FSX, and actually it isn't all that bad. It does have a huge impact on frame rates though - going from (locked) 25 to somewhere around 20 FPS, on small rural fields. Apparently there are some clipping problems as well, but they're not very noticable.

This was with a default skin, so maybe there are other skins available - less realistic but easier on the graphics card?
