Well, brother, did I find one.
Maybe some of you know about this, but I didn't.
I was at the MAAM site looking into buying their TBF Avenger, and I headed over to the freeware section.
Couldn't believe it. The Battle Of Midway! All of the ships and planes that took part, flak, flames...and the whole works are for free.
All of the carriers are landable. There's an aresstor hook ini file that comes with it.
It's five seperate downloads that include ships that go into your add-on scenery folder, effects, and Japanese and American ai aircraft.
Now, this was originally an FS2004 release, so you need to go to Sim-Outhouse and grab the ZIP file that makes this comapatible with FSX.
I'm having a problem with it, though, involving the ai planes. I don't see 'em. I'm sitting on the Yorktown in my pretty blue Hellcat (yeah I know, no Hellcats at Midway), and the sky is filling up with tracers and black flak bursts, and I see splashes in the water, and the fleet is zig-zagging like crazy to avoid something! But I don't see 'em.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong.
I launched from the Shokaku in my Shockwave Zero, and the same thing. Was hoping to see Torpedo Eights Devestators heading for us, but only lots of fireworks, and three burning Japanese Carriers. No sign of the Dauntlesses that wrought all of the destruction.
Still even without the ai airplanes it's a great place to operate any WW2 Navy planes in your hanger. Not all of the scenarios have firework displays. You can also just shoot takeoff and landings in clear blue skies, with that task force spreading out for miles. Yorktown, Enterprise, Hornet, and all of their support vessels are there. Same for the Japanese fleet.
Oh, and you get the Battle of Coral Sea, also. You access the Coral Sea fleets by clicking on either Australia, or New Guinea. Midway ships, of course, are at Midway.
Try it, and maybe you can tell me why I can't see any planes but mine. I'm dying to bounce a Zero!!

What exactly is this "MAAM" website? Give us a link, please.

MAAM is the MAAM museum group who also produce some FS products to help them. Really really really surprised you have not heard of them!

So, MAAM is the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum. I guess that word about it hasn't gotten this far west (Colo.) yet. It's a very interesting looking place from its website. I'll have to drop by the next time I'm in eastern Pa. Thanks for the link.

No, I've known about them. I've had their B-25 for years.. I just never saw the free Battle of Midway package. Don't know how I missed it!
