Hi Guys,
Those of you who have seen Mike's recent projects will know that he is trying to build multi aircraft Squadron and Staffel skins for EAW. He is part way through completing Spitfire Mk Ia skins for 610 Squadron, and is thinking about then moving on to Hurricanes used by Squadrons in 11 Group during the Battle of Britain - July to the end of September 1940.
Mike has requested suggestions on Hurricanes, and as with 610 it would be most helpful to find details of aircraft serials and matching codes - which in the past has proved a problem According to my initial research, allowing for rotation, around 22 Hurricane Squadrons were in 11 Group between July and the end of September, some only for a few weeks and some up to 2 months. If it is any help here is a list of the ones I think should be considered.
1, 17, 32, 43, 56, 79, 85, 111, 145, 213, 229, 249, 253, 257, 303, 401, 501, 504, 601, 605, 607, 615. I am open to corrections as there are numerous sources I cannot or have not look(ed) at, particularly books.
So start digging and see what you can find! I need details of aircraft serials and codes for at least one Hurricane Squadron of the above, preferably active in 11 Group between the start of August and the end of September 1940. The only one I have found which is active throughout both months seems to be 501, but I am open to suggestions, all information appreciated. I understand that not all aircraft would be active at any one particular date but at least it will be a step in the right direction and passably accurate. The more the merrier, and the payoff will be a complete Squadron of BOB Hurricane Mk Ia skinned by Mike to his usual high standards - a joy to behold!
Cheers
Pete

Hi Guys,
Thanks for that. What I think Mike really needs is a list of codes and related serials for as many as possible of a whole squadron. Minimum 12 aircraft, with reserves 16, and that is where the problem lies! The 610 site more or less did that, but with most others you are lucky to find perhaps 4 planes in my experience, but there an awful lot of sites out there I have not found to look at, and there must be some books concentrating on a squadron, rather than Hurricanes in general.
Keep it coming in and I will check it out. Your help is much appreciated.
Pete
