Hello,
since flying with Tileproxy, the performance has been kicked up quite a lot!

Of course a the vegetation and many buildings get lost, but that's okay for me go get a photorealistic satellite terrain with a much better performance.

But if you internet connection speed is too low, so that the loading of the terrain is not fast enough (i'm using DSL 16.000 kbps, which works ok), or prefer the original FSx terrain from other reasons, you might also look here:

Or just google "fsx autogen"

FSX is definitely CPU-limited. It makes practically no difference in performance between flying with my GeForce 7950 GT or my GTX 260.

From extensive experimentation over the last week or two, I would say that the two key things to do are:

- Turn off Traffic, Boats and Airport Traffic. You can leave AI aircraft active, but get rid of the ground vehicles> I know it's nice to have them, but they are a HUGE hit on your frame-rates (10-15 FPS on my i7 system). Note: Having the sliders at 1% seems to cause exactly the same hit as having them at 100%.

- Turn off Light Bloom. It's a pretty effect, but it has a big, big effect on the FPS.

With those two tweaks, I'm running at a pretty consistent 30 FPS with every other slider set to full (including Autogen and Scenery). With FEX, GEX and UTX, the world looks pretty damn sweet.

Can someone recommend settings for my rig?

Intel Dual Core 6600 @ 2.6Ghz
XP SP2
FSX + Accelleration Pack + SP2
Nvidia 9800GTX+
2GB RAM
Widescreen 1680x1050 monitor (might at a 4:3 monitor as a second monitor, frame hit for that? Just for gauges, maps, etc).

You should have no issues running FSX in your monitor's native resolution. I would set everything on max, disable AA and bloom. Pull detail radius down to half (center) and set both autogen sliders to sparse.

FSX is indeed CPU-limited. I went from XP, GF-8800GTX, 2GB RAM and C2D E6700 (2.6GHz) to Vista x64, GF-8800GTX, 6GB RAM and i7 920 (2.6GHz).
Not only am I getting 2-3 times higher framerate, but the jerky uneven framerate normally seen with high autogen settings are gone (with DX10 enabled).
