I was going through my pile of old flight sims manuals and noticed some of them had really nice maps on paper that came with the box. Of course, in those days the graphics were not as good as now (hills were pyramid shaped etc), but I still like to navigate using a real map. Since the ROF landscape is pretty realistic and based on satellite data, will we get a nice printable map to navigate by? Or does someone have access to historical maps we could print out?
The ROF landscape isn't based on satellite data, but on historical maps (and some aerial photograph for texture inspiration). Only the elevation (altitude) is based on satellite data.
The historical maps are actually not available for free access (copyright issues), but it will maybe be possible for France in 1 or 2 years (on a public website)... not sure yet.
That's a great find! Unfortenately the part where the americans were stationed (and I think where our first misions in this sim will be) is not covered (SW of Metz-Nancy). Let's continue the search...
That's a great idea Tbag. I might do that if there is a proper "ingame" map. Still, I'm hoping to use a historical map. I have been searching the net for hours now, but somehow it's hard to get by historical maps of the NE part of France.
