Where have you guys been? This has been out for a while. There was a link posted on SimHQ several months ago to a free demo that came with a complete mission--takeoff, orbiting, mission, and return to earth.

You'd actually be surprised how easy it is to get the hang of where all the buttons are - easy mode literally has a flashing arrow telling you what switch to move. The manual is only ~110 pages. The really hard part of this sim is something that's optional for the most part, understanding what all those buttons do and knowing what all those gauge readings mean. And for that, the systems simulation is good enough to just use NASA's shuttle reference.

So all you do is flicking switches and let the flight computer do the rest?

You manually rendezvous, dock, land, manipulate the RMS arm, and do spacewalks. All of those except the spacewalks require a good deal of skill.

Nice AAR there Vertical!

I hope they keep developing this sim and either in this version or next add failures, collision detection, and in general more challenges to the sim. I also keep hoping they'll give us the ability to assign commands to the keyboard for those of us who'd like to use some external hardware with this beauty!

There's collision detection. I've crashed into a satellite while trying to grapple and gotten the mission failure screen. But yeah, failures and keyboard mapping would be nice.

do we get the option to initiate an alien attack on the shuttle while we are in orbit? the alien should come knocking at the front cockpit windshield and try to bash its way through.

alternatively, clear gunky goo may be found in the passageways and the player has to fight off a rampaging alien inside the ship.

i think there was an atari game like that.

its a cool sim :P love the pics thanks vertical !
