Air Warrior.. WOW!

I think I started in 1986 or 87 on AIr Warrior thru GEnie. At the time I was running an Atari ST and it wasn't available on Atari or Commodore yet, so I got something called a MAc Sac, which was a MAC emulator that ran thru the Atari ST ( Was this crazy or what?) Just basic wire frame images and I dont think that the sound worked too well. Oh God the bills from GEnie and trying to reconcile those with my wife. Switched over to the Atari ST when that came out. What great times.

I played Air Warrior and then Confirmed Kill/Warbirds under similar names. I remember my CK/WB name before they forced us to change was -rb-. I don't remember my AW name but it was probably close to that.

I enjoyed AW for what it was but after going to CK/WB it never felt as realistic and even though I went back to it a couple of times after quitting WB, I felt disconnected from the earlier fun of it. So, I have more of a nostalgic feeling about War Birds than I do about Air Warrior.

Imagine my surprise when I find that not only is there a thread about the game I used to play, but evidently some of these guys remember my old alter-ego. I refer to my old handle, 'Mars' former CO of the Blackdogs as well as former member of the KCS. Rattler, your former squadmate salutes you.

Reading this stuff brings back alot of memories. Btw, Ratt I moved to Phoenix about 6 years ago. Pm me and I'll send you my number, maybe tell some warstories.

Hah! Everyone remembers Mars.

I was a late starter with the AW series. I entered the fray with AW III on Gamestorm. I flew with a a RAF based squadron (can't remember the name now, but it was headed up by 'joc'.

After a while with AW3 I was seduced by the smooth graphics and flight model that was Warbirds (2.5 I think was the current version when I defected). I flew with several squads there, made it to 'Trainer' status (comp'd account :D) and flew that right up until about 2003. Then life got in the way (I was working hard on my RL flight training and after my brother's accident, seeing WW2 era aircaft hitting the ground was just not something I found entertaining anymore).

These days I can't play online anymore, in part because I now live out in the country and have to use a satellite internet connection.

I kind of miss the camaraderie of being in an active online squadron. I have a lot of good memories from my online flying days.

I flew in the 90's AirWarrior II and AirWarrior III.

My handle was "Ruski".

I mostly flew Yak 9 and La 5. Naturally.
