I like Chunx suggestion of running 2 X 30 minute races with weight penalties and accelerated fuel and tyre wear to ensure at least one pitstop. The reverse grids worked real well in this series and I think it's a great idea to continue in the same vein.

Race report:
Practise - Got all my real practise in on Sunday with JonC after testing the track early in the week. Like Joe, I know this track really well from an endurance race that Team SimHQ entered last year. First practise lap (no ballast) without going off resulted in a gentle 1:46 laptime, so I figured I needed to make up about 3 seconds to be on the pace. When I noticed Jon flying around in the 1:42's and read Chunx' post that he had a PB of 1:41.4, I panicked! Dug deep into my GTR2 setup folders and found an old Lamborghini Sebring setup that I had from a previous series with a similar wing setting of 1/4 and gave it a go. Dropped into the 1:42's immediately and after stiffening the springs a tad, snuck into the 1:41's with a 1:41.9xx. From then on in, it was a question of getting used to the Lambo on this track.

Qualifying - Pretty much matched my PB of 1:41.3xx to take pole just ahead of a very fast Joe. I was quite surprised to even get that laptime as all my 1:41 laps were without the 70 kilo weight penalty. From reading the reports above, I guess most of us managed to bring out the best in our respective cars when it mattered most thumbsup

Race 1 - The Lambo rockets of the line like no other car in this mod and this helped me get a nice clean run into T1 with nobody alongside. Got some real quick laps in and built myself a 3 second lead or so by lap 3. DBR must have had a moment somewhere cause the gap suddenly grew to 7 seconds. I needed all of those 7 seconds to bring home the win as I shredded my left sided tyres big time going through 100R. Unlike Joe, who had a problem with the front left, my rear left tyre was all over the place (running soft-slicks front and rear) DBR was closing at almost 1.5 seconds a lap for the last 3 laps, but I just about held him off for a win.

Race 2 - After the hysterics with the tyres in Race 1, I switched to Soft fronts and Medium rears for Race 2. Got another great start, but braked very early on the inside line to make sure I hit the apex right and didn't run wide at T1. Worked quite well for me as it turns out cause there was some contact and I was through from eighth to fourth. There was more contact between the 3 cars ahead at T4 and I got through into the lead. There was slight contact between Bungle and me when he came back on track only to find me there suddenly smile By the time the three cars behind me had got going again, I had a 4 second lead or so. The medium rear tyres worked absolutely brilliantly and I pushed like I did in qualifying and the car handled like it was on rails. An uneventful race later, I had a double race-win, first one in a long time whoohoo

Too bad I couldn't make the first few races of the series as the last two have been a blast. Good to see some fast new drivers like Jon, Bungle and Nimrud joining us as well as some GTR2 regulars like Adlabs and AMK. Chunx was a great host and like Chip said earlier in this thread; we've been to a few drivers meeting, but none as good as this. Congrats to the speedy DBR for taking the championship. I shudder to think how fast he'll be once he gets his hands on a G25 eek

Thanks guys really enjoyed the series and I look forward to the next.

Race 1: In practice i thought i'd set a 1:40.600 with 120kg obviously it hadn't been put on, and for some reason I couldn't get the qualifying setup right it was only 2 tenths faster than my race setup. At the start I made a decent start got to the inside of Jon who I collided with as I could not see left, sorry Jon, I then had a steady gap of about 3 seconds to Vixz in front, I span and ended up 7 seconds behind with Jon? right behind me, I could see the battle behind, and with shot tyres myself went on to try and catch Vixz I ended up 3 seconds behind

Race 2: Man this was crazy, in a nutshell I spent about 10 laps behind Adlabs getting passed a couple of times then spinning giving it back, my tyres were terrible, I ended up 4th nearly getting Adlabs on the last lap but 2.2 seconds was too big gap. Well done Vixz and a special well done to Adlabs who was great.

Some great racing out there in the final event of the season, seemed to be a real scrap going on in the middle of the pack on both races which was exciting to be part of although a couple of contacts were made, none of them were so serious enough to put someone off in a big way. With so many different lines possible, it was inevitable there would be some clashes.
Great racing everybody, really enjoyed the atmosphere in this series and hope to see something similar in the future.

Congrats to DBR9 on the championship and to Vikz on the double win.

Thx to everyone involved in setting this up, very well organised and generally went off succesfully.

Great series, thanks for hosting it Chunx!

Comments on the series... short sessions are great, two events mean that an incident doesn't wipe the whole weekend, weight penalties certainly made the field interesting, as did the reversed grid.

Race 1 at Fuji was better than I hoped, even though I was at the back. I set several PB while tweaking the setup during practice. Was only a couple seconds off the pole time, which was nice compared to my previous results.

Race 2 was strange, I used the same setup and I don't think my lap times were much faster, but I held on to 2nd place for what seemed like more than half the race. Vikz ran way off and out of sight, but the rest of the field seemed to be having trouble closing in. I only recall two cars getting really close enough for a pass, mostly DBR9. We traded position a few times as our race lines clashed, but each time I got the pass back. Then at the start of the uphill corning section, DBR9 had gotten ahead, and I smacked his rear bumper pretty hard, sending him off the track. Since this was a pretty gross foul up on my behalf, I slowed to let DBR have the place back, which let another car pass me. Then I looked around by chance and saw that DBR was able to drive straight through the gap and back onto the track about 200 meters ahead of me! So I stepped on it hard and closed just a touch. Later near the same corner, I found DBR sitting backwards on the track, allowing me to regain 3rd place with a couple laps left, and I hung on there to the finish.

Certainly the most exciting event in the series for me, and I got a podium out of it. Thanks for everyone who participated. If we run another similar event, I'll try to run it too.

All of the crazy battling that was going on mid-pack was reducing those cars' laptimes considerably.

First off Congrats to DBR9 for winning the Championship and grats to Chunx and JonC for P2 & P3 in this final standings (and so close in 4th Frank).

Second I wanted to say I am sorry to have missed the series after making Round 2 at Daytona, I was really looking forward to this series and the tracks but some RL matters took the wind out of my sails when it came to games. I have also missed racing this past month with the ADC gang at speedgeezers.net and my Saturday night Ironman league at speedracin.net. I hope to be back on track soon and look forward to future races here at SimHQ.

Thank, DK
