Guys,
I am building a PC specifically for F-15, F/A-18 and Longbow 2. It has:
Win98SE DirectX 7 P3 1Gig (10 x 100 FSB) 192 Megs RAM (I can put in anything from 64 to 768 Megs) Voodoo 5 5500 SB Live Cougar + CH Pedals TIR 4 (can I even use that in these sims?)
20' Monitor
Now my question is, how can I play these games on higher resolutions appropriate for a 20" monitor?
Appreciate the help, thanks!
I have gaming PCs that run everything from MS-DOS 6.22 to Windows 7 64-bit
Win7 Home Prem 64 i5-3570 ASRock HM77 XFX Radeon HD 6950 2 Gig 8 Gigs GSkill DDR3 1600 500 Gig Samsung 840 SSD 1 TB WD Black SATA II HD Plextor 24x DVD-RW ViewSonic VA2702w 1920x1080 HP L2206tm 1920x1080 Multi-Touch Screen Antec Neo 550w PS Antec Full Tower Case Warthog 1663 w/ CH Pro Pedals TIR4 w/ Clip Logitech G110 KB Razer Naga

I run F/A-18 on my 22" WS monitor at 1280x1024 with the option not to scale, so I have some black bars but things are more in proportion than allowing them to stretch.
I run Longbow2 at the full 1680x1050 res using the option in the DGVoodoo Glide Wrapper. It is a little stretched out of proportion but still works fine. Not sure you can get there without a GLIDE Wrapper as LB2 doesn't really allow resolution changes. I used to run both sims on a similar system with V5 5500 and they worked well. Only had a 17" CRT, though.

You can use a glide wrapper with a voodoo card? I thought the glide wrapper was for if you did not have a voodoo card? Thank you!

No, I meant that on my CURRENT system, I use the GLIDE WRAPPER to get the 3dFX and it allows resolution increase.
I believe I DID try using the GLIDE WRAPPER with the V5 5500 to get the resolution increase but I honestly don't recall what happened when I did!

Not true!! F/A-18 ran fine on my old P3-550 with the V5 5500. The Voodoo 5 was a pretty decent DX7 card as well as a 3dFX accelerator. With the faster CPU it should do even better.

Wow, that's dedication... making an entire new system JUST for those Jane's sims. Reminds me of when I went all out to find a Voodoo card a few years back on my old PC so I could play LB2 as it was meant to be... in 3DFX! That was BEFORE I'd ever found a successfull glide wrapper though!

You know that anyone could have saved the campaign and taken over hosting from Striker and continue the F4 group? Striker said he was going to save the campaign files and email them out sometime as well. I generally couldn't make the Saturday F4 campaigns anyway You can't go wrong with LB2 and F/A-18 carrier ops anyway. Someday we'll have to find a time for LB2 Multiplay...single mission or campaign style. Recluse

Someday we'll have to find a time for LB2 Multiplay...single mission or campaign style. Recluse Striker obviously put a little bit of his heart and soul into that campaign and I simply do not have the knowledge to manage it as well as he did. Maybe I am being over-dramatic but, I would feel weird playing with his baby like that. Besides, what I learned from this experience is that there is a WHOLE LOT MORE FUN to be had with these games when played with you guys online so, I will walk away from F4 and try to enjoy these Jane's titles as much as I enjoyed Falcon. Hopefully one day we play on another Striker server... with Falcon 5 or a LP F-18 title...

UTR, Recluse - I'm up for LB2 online most any time. As soon as I feel proficient enough that I am not wasting anyone's time, I will certainly be looking to do exactly that.

We're mostly in it for the fun and the more the merrier. As you no doubt learned from the F4 experience, online MP is not only fun but a great instructional tool as well. Also, no need to wait for a LP F/A-18 experience. Janes F/A-18 is great in MP as well, absent the dynamic campaign. Recluse

Hey, UTR - And besides what Recluse said, why walk away from Falcon 4? Most of us still fly, and would enjoy seeing you again. I'm around several evenings a week, Recluse too sometimes. Send an ICQ, or just stop in on SimHQ TS and see if any one is home.

you mean for JF15 and Longbow2.
JF18 is gonna run horribly on that system with the Voodoo card Yeah, I just made the box today and F/A-18 is really choppy. Playable but, annoying compared to F4 on my current rig. The REALLY crappy thing is I just gave a way a cherry P4P800 based system that would have been EXCELLENT for this What happened to Karma? F-15 just looks awful at 640x480 on a 20" monitor. Longbow2 looks fine in external but the pit has some problems, weird lines and some gauges are stacked on top of each other. I have not sat and tweaked out on PCs in a long time. It was a fun waste of a day
