ST is right that looks like an F. Maybe just a typo in 8's part. Still looking forward to it.

Right you are. It IS and F, with S blades.
Our test pilot, a 3000-hour Army and USMC Cobra pilot, already pointed out how he wants it configured for his mission. G-model. The right tubes, etc., the day of the Last Stand of RT Kansas.
We will toss in the F for grins but it won't appear in YAP...which is too bad because it can really make a mess of things. You will have to settle for two 19 rocket cans and two 7 rocket tubes, a mini-gun/grenade launcher turret and a great FM.
I hate to change the flat windows and the wire cutter is a nice detail but if they gotta go, they gotta go...
And correcting errors is not an act of assitude. Any time.

10 year US Army Cobra crew chief here.
The AH-1S (Mod), later redesignated as just AH-1S, had the old-style G/Q bubble canopy. The next version, the AH-1S (Prod), later redesignated AH-1P, was the first production model with the flat plate canopy. The follow-on AH-1S ECAS (AH-1E) and AH-1S MC (AH-1F) also had the flat plate.
The redesignation of the four different versions of the AH-1S, which occured in 1987-1988, tends to throw people off. I know we were scratching our heads in the hanger standing right next to them at the time (we had three of the four different models.)
The Cobra in the image is definitely an AH-1F, because that was the only model with the ADS boom sticking out of the canopy rail between the gunner and pilot compartments. However, the boom should go on the starboard side of the aircraft.
The rotor blades, being metal, appear to be the older B540 type, which rarely appeared on the F model. Instead, they tended to use the K747 blades, which were made of a repairable composite material and had tapered blade tips. They also tended to get eaten up by the sand in Saudi/Iraq pretty badly too.
And yeah, I'm over-analyzing this. Sorry. I'll be a snake doctor until the day I die, I think.

Did the Cobra have the extended tailpipe and IR jammer in Vietnam? I thought that came later?

that looks pretty good. but 1 question about YAP 1. will it be compatible with yap 2 & will it be updated to work under the new patches?
I love animals. My favorite animals are: Bunnys and Chicks.

Probably not. We got so far behind in changes that we just gave up. That was part of the reason for making v2. Many of the targets had to move into clearings when we got the jungle. There are targets we just didn't have before...like piers where there was paint before. There are little pieces at the airports that we did not have. We did not have a Cobra for missions that were Cobra missions...or A1E's...or the right carrier.
Another thing: Smart game designers narrow their scope to make the marketing and eventual product more manageable. YAP went the stupid way. We are trying to tell stories throughout a 10-year (actually 20) war using the machines in the stories. The new patch kills the helicopters. So until we have time to work on the FM, we cannot use the patch. While we have plenty of detailed ground object aircraft now, we still depend upon PNT's complex models and we do not wish to lose those and the patch wipes them out.
So, there are plenty of places that YAP 1 and YAP 2 will not be the same at all. We decided that it would not just be YAP1 with a jungle and it is not. I seldom get to play...just test. But taking off from Korat as #4, hitting the pre-strike tanker for 3000#, flying loose formation into the Red River Valley, descending out of a broken deck into a gloomy tropical basin, watching the tracers coming up then seeing #3 jumped by a MiG-17 which you hurry up to hose down or watch him eat it, then hit the bridge amidst horrible AAA, climb out, find and join on the post-strike tanker, take on 1000#, head home, land and taxi in to the revetments to the guy with the wands, open up the lid and hit ESC isn't like any game in the world.
