Hi

I found this info about Glide:

http://www.x.org/archive/X11R6.8.0/doc/glide.4.html

This driver supports 16 and 24 bit color modes. The 24 bit color mode uses a 32 bit framebuffer (it has no support for 24 bit packed-pixel framebuffers). Notice that the Voodoo boards can only display 16 bit color, but the shadow framebuffer can be run in 24 bit color. The point of supporting 24 bit mode is that this enables you to run in a multihead configuration with Xinerama together with another board that runs in real 24 bit color mode.

Cheers

Hi Per.

All these graphic changes can be very complicated, and have untold effects on the game, even though the idea seems quite simple.

This was the result of a try to improve fps by stopping the exe from changing states all the time.

If the game runs in D3D on your computer, then there is no problem. I've been testing everything we have added to the game, and I've seen no performance loss, fps between 20 to 60 depending on the view.

Allen is right though, Glide is a virtually dead graphics system, and there really is no point in spending time to fix the code for a small minority, when there are far more important things to fix, like the deadly 7217 error, which effects a much larger group of people, and is the main reason for the drop in popularity of EAW.

As to OpenGL. I think Sydbod is busy working on his new EAW flight Sim engine.
