Nothing on 4.09. To be honest I don't know if it'll bring anything we haven't experienced, or likely to experience, now that modding is the new direction!

Panzermeyer, you can always try it in a separate install. I use 4.09beta offline and just switch to the 4.08m for online. Even though the unified mod installer comes with a version switcher, I decided to play it safe and make two installs instead. Do you have the TIR Vector thingy? It's worth it at least to try it just for that. Great fun to finally make the 190 cockpit brackets a moot point.
The issue is not p*ssy. The issue is monkey.

This is what I get for being out of the IL-2 news loop for so long!

Oh, so you mean 4.09 beta introduces 6DOF to the game? This is what I get for being out of the IL-2 news loop for so long! No, it is only introduced by using the mods (Unified Installer to be precise) and you can then use it in 4.08 or 4.09b. The version switcher works like a charm and lets you play 4.08, 4.08 w 6DOF, 4.09, and 4.09 w 6DOF. The beta "just" gives some minor tweaks and a couple of new maps and some new textures and objects.

Ok, got it. Thanks! I'll download both the patch and the unified installer tonight. The unified installer includes the patch.

If it weren't such a bad joke, I'd say "two weeks". Instead, all I can do is relate what I've read elsewhere (though I can't seem to find the reference now ): 4.09 will be released when Oleg's team, currently working on SOW:BoB, has some time to go back and look over the 4.09 stuff. Which is a nice way of saying they really won't be releasing 4.09 at all (IMO) since Oleg's team is busy with BoB and will be for roughly another year at least. Oleg and crew have stood behind the IL-2 series faithfully for many years, creating the atmosphere of support the players have come to expect. Yet here at the series end they have (from all appearances) abandoned the IL-2 series. This takes "attention deficit disorder" to a whole new level.

And we thought the Beatles break up was bad!! Honestly though, and maps aside, there are so many great things available from the Mod community (Yoko?? ) that my game is nothing like the original and stands head and shoulders above anything that preceeds it...period. I just can't see the official patch being that big a deal any more and maybe Oleg has realized that?! Cheers, Ogs.

I agree with you. It's looking like they've just abandoned IL-2 and are just waiting for it to die off. Starshoy seems to have buggered off and there's no peep from Oleg about the future of the sim.
It'll be a shame if this is the case and will certainly have a negative influence on my decision to buy BoB.
How many years since the original Il2 sturmovik has Oleg and his company provides us with patches and more patches, lots of free flyables planes, improvements in every aspect of the game, and so on, but everything has an ending, he is in another project now,an amazing project for us! but because of that very understandable bussiness move of him, your decision to buy BoB has changed?? I really think the man does not deserves that.

I really think the man does not deserves that. I'm just disappointed in the way the apparent ending of the IL-2 series has been handled. Everything up to this point has been done well enough to gain accolades from all around the computer gaming community, not just the flight-sim players. I expected a final flourish with the release of 4.09, a series ending platinum edition all-in-one DVD, and then much aerial 'goodness' within the IL-2 playing community while the initial offering of the "Storm of War" series (Battle of Britain) was created and released. Instead we got a beta that has yet to be officially sanctioned and leaked tools that have spawned an entirely new community creating mods. A community which I initially opposed, but have grown to embrace due to the lack of continued support for the official game from 1C:MG. I'm always reminding myself, my daughter and my wife to "finish one project before starting another". I've learned over time that an unfinished project reflects poorly on those to whom responsibility for that project was entrusted. My fear is that 1C:MG has not learned that lesson, and may repeat their IL-2 series ending mistake with current or future SOW additions. They now have a history of poor endings, despite excellent beginnings.

The series ended with Il2 Sturmovik 1946, an all in one DVD as you say, that was its end, and because 4.09 patch is in beta stage, maybe forever, so what, we have a robust sim with or without this patch, why it has to turn into a history of poor endings?, where are the poor endings! To deliver another "all in one DVD" with just the last patch just to make the end "memorable" is just financially inaceptable, it cost money that is being expending in BoB. I think we loved this sim so much that we dont accept that this is the end,but good times are coming because of the mod community and BoB so the mourning is over for me.

I agree Fer. IL2 1946 was the series end. The 4.09 addition was made by third parties and Oleg had far more important priorities by the time it was ready to be included. He had to make a break at some point and never would complete SOW if had to spare people everytime the community wanted something new added. For many years he supplied EXTRA maps, planes, and features to IL-2 Sturmovic, suggesting Oleg somehow didn't finish the IL-2 project, is quite frankly ridiculous.
