OK, didn't know you play the older H3. Can't even buy that version now as far as I know. That means it is abandonware so upload it. ;\)

You are correct. The older H3 version is no longer commercially available. However, that does not mean that it is 'abandonware'. AGSI, the company holding the development rights, has not relinquished any of those rights. Some folks over at one site tried to post the *.exe files for Harpoon3 and were immediately ordered to cease and desist.

Just because the company does not wish to support or offer a certain version of their software, does not necessarily mean that they wish to abandon it. If only they would... ;\)

Since you still have access to Harpoon 2, you might like to try out our scenarios. I'm pretty certain that they will still run in that version.

HarpoonII that I have won't run on a PC with more than 16mb of ram, or was it 32mb? Can't remember exactly but it would be a lot of hassle to get running and I have no soundcard that would give me sound in Dos either. Not being able to hear Vampire! Vampire! just would not be the same.

Wait a sec. I've never tried it with Dos Box. You think that would get around the ram limitation?

H2 will run on a PC with more than 16mB of RAM if you use the DOSBox utility. I have H2AE and run it this way sometimes. I don't know about the sound performance, though. I think it will work, too. I agree that the "Vampire, Vampire, Vampire" call evokes a certain, "je ne sais quoi"... \:D

OK, thanks. I never thought to try it with Dosbox because I didn't think Dosbox would solve ram limitation issues. Sound should work fine too.

Installed Harpoon2 and have it running with Dosbox fine. Couldn't get sound at first until I figured out what the correct IRQ and DMA for my card was. While I was at it I installed another 15 or so Dos games I had collecting dust. Man, are they ever fugly looking too. I'm glad that period of computer gaming is over.

Great to hear that you got it working. I can't wait to hear how you find our scenarios. I know that H2 used to crash a great deal with the 386/486 computers. They should run like a dream with contemporary systems.

Yea, it runs nice and smooth. I remember on my 486 it used to chug along badly on large scenarios. Only scenario I played so far is Dawn Patrol which I know very well. What do you mean by "our" scenarios? Are the scenarios in the old H2 done by you guys or are you saying I can load your scenarios into it?

All of the old H2 scenarios have been re-built for compatibility with the PlayersDB. We fixed a crap-load of problems with the old H2 scenarios. Some scenarios had Victory Conditions (i.e. sink CVN Nimitz when there wasn't any CVN in the scenario...), no ammo loaded into the magazines, etc.

You should be able to switch out the old database and scenarios that came with H2 with the scenarios and PlayersDB and they should run even better.
