####### Important, Maps updated occasionally to show correct situation! #######. The map here shows the primary goals we need to capture. Please note that the blue stars indicate the cities the FRY need to occupy in order to beat us! We will need to occupy the 8 main city objectives in order to complete the campaign using ground forces moving East from Slovenija & Croatia. Goals are: Bijeljina City, Vlasencia, Novi Sad, Zrenjanin, Stepojevac, Sabac, Mionica & Beograd. Please don't download the maps, it will slow down the server and they're low res anyhow! If you would like a higher resolution copy to print, send your email address by PM. This map shows the current theater assets. For NATO, the yellow stars designate air bases with support aircraft only while the blue stars designate ones with either attack/sweep aircraft only or attack/sweep/support units. The FRY airbases and assets are designated by red stars. Below that is a link to a break down of what asset is at each air base. Some bases are listed twice depending on whether they contain both support and attack units. Click on this link to see all NATO & FRY Airbase Assets

Doh... moved from Korea thread...
Hey guys,
So, we got our butts handed to us last night. No big deal, it will make the victory that much sweeter.
In the discussion following the flying, we were looking at the reasons why and we decided to take the discussion here.
Basically the problem is the R-77. Its the Russian version of the AMRAAM and when the enemy carries it, they have tactical parity (if not a slight advantage) over us depending on what version of the AMRAAM you are carrying.
Thankfully, only a few jets carry this weapon. The Mig-29A and SU-27, along with anything older, do not.
The Mig-29S and SU-27S or anything later DO. Those are the jets that will give us problems.
This missile has a longer range (80KM) then anything we can carry except the AIM-120C-5 (82KM). The AIM-120B is just short at 75KM. The AIM-120C-4 falls far short so, avoid it if you think you are going to fight R-77 carriers.
So, how do we defeat these guys? Tactics and teamwork.
I spent the morning reading through some books but did not find what I was looking for. I presume the book that I have that did explain good AMRAAM tactics is in storage. Thankfully, I am going there today and will look through my books for it. I might also go to Barnes and Noble to do some reading.
However, there are a lot of smart guys here so, if you have any thoughts, I would love to hear them.

(sorry to ask that stupid, I guess, million time asked question, but my weekends are mostly sold out in advance, so to speak, i prefer sun through fri, when i am at "office" and I WOULD like to fly with You guys, I guess that's honest) cheers white_fang

Hi guys. Been lurking for awhile here. I too would love to fly with you guys, but my Saturdays are also almost always spent working at a job I hate and am trying to get rid of for a better one, but thats another story. I guess I'll just have to be content with reading your debriefings for now. I just started flying 4.0AF after learning how to fly again on Superpak and Freefalcon recently. Had attempted to come back a few times but was intimidated by the dance of patches. Finally forced myself to dive in and glad I did.

Flying with Striker and the boys is the kind of fun that I think Gilman Louie had in mind oh so many years ago. This is fun on a huge scale for me. I have had some memorable LAN meets with a buddy that lost his taste for simming but, this takes the cake. Flying with these guys is a really good time. Its worth the Saturday night (for an old married guy w/ 2 kids) And I might have to miss it this week. My birthday is Thursday and I think I might miss the flight

I'm going to miss this Saturday as well. It's my 16th wedding anniversary and If I'm flying I may not make it to 17yrs. Although I could possibly make a Sunday night session with it being Labor Day weekend and having Monday off.

Yeah, if it was moved to another night because of the weekend, I would make it. No more "Generation Kill" on Sundays, so no conflict

UTR, that sounds like it's going to be one hell of a birthday party! Starts Thursday and ends??? Regarding the "Charge of the Light Brigade" beginning of the campaign last Saturday... I might not have been clear when discussing the option to restart and go after air superiority, given the death toll due to MiGs. I was suggesting that as the aim of the FIRST mission, not as a campaign goal for the foreseeable future and many missions. Given the incredible high rate of loss we suffered, that seems not only wise according to doctrine, but also wise regarding loadouts. Difficult to be nimble and deal with the quite capable MiG 29s and their R-77 stingers -- when most of us are loaded down with strike weapons and no one is flying air superiority or TARCAP missions. Exposing our limited number of human pilots to air attack without cover and without air superiority seems like an invitation to exactly the kind of losses we suffered both times Saturday. On the otherhand, even in the poor configuration we used, both times we knocked down double-digit numbers of MiGs. Imagine the resulting balance of forces if we accomplished the same rate of kills but preserved our own stinking hides, perhaps losing only one or two airframes. The impact on campaign time consumed is only a matter of a couple hours, but we would gain a measure of security to then move ahead with strike operations in support of the ground war. And this from one perfectly willing to take on the suicide Hail Mary Beograd area strikes, any time!

UTR, that sounds like it's going to be one hell of a birthday party! Starts Thursday and ends??? Oddly, it is turning into quite a shindig! The original plan was dinner with a few couples at my favorite hibachi joint on Saturday night. Mai-Tais!!!! My one buddy was supposed to be getting married on that night. He broke up with his girl but, they had a 1/3rd non-refundable deposit on the banquet room. When my wife called to invite him, they were discussing his situation and he came up with the idea of using that place to have the party. The deposit is non-refundable and paid for 1/3rd (60/180) of the guests so, we might as well get something out of it... buffet food, top shelf hooch... It's a weird situation, I don't know if I am gonna do it but, it has the potential to be a pretty memorable night. Any of the Striker's crowd from Jersey?

I might not have been clear when discussing the option to restart and go after air superiority, given the death toll due to MiGs........... I know what you mean Eugene so it's all good. I think we're going to do fine so I'm not going to worry about anything. I knew that the first few weeks of this campaign would be very difficult. Actually, compared to how crappy we did at the start of the Korea campaign, we're actually doing much better. We're actually stopping and thinking more about the best course of action to take. I'm going to spend a lot of time this week going over the assets at each air base and how we can use them effectively. I plan on setting up a bunch of CAS, Interdiction and Sweep flights before we fly this coming Saturday. We'll have plenty of help out there this time I can assure you of that. We're going to pound the crap out of their ground units while we hit them with a wall of A2A. I will be posting the list of all airbase assets before this coming Saturday so keep an eye out for it! I'm going to miss this Saturday as well. It's my 16th wedding anniversary and If I'm flying I may not make it to 17yrs. Although I could possibly make a Sunday night session with it being Labor Day weekend and having Monday off. I totally understand. I'll be here for anyone that wants to fly this Saturday and if anyone wants to fly on Sunday, let me know by PM and we'll run the campaign for awhile then too!

Striker,
I hope you can fit me into a minor role for the Balkans 2005 Saturday Night Campaign. I was lurking on TS last Saturday Night. Sounded like a fun bunch.
I live in CA. What's your ETD? I have you on my ICQ contact list. I'll drop you a note.

My F4:AF installed version is 1.0.13.80119. I have it set to update on auto. Is this a good thing for compatibility? As I have been flying other sims + a new X52 control sys + a Win XP rebuild,,, I am weak in F4, but like your idea of a LAN party. I hope to be lurking on TS around 6 PM Sat.
Your preparation and attention to detail with preflight is fascinating. For me,, it's like starting to learn a new sim. You may know my fav is still TAW. F4 is like flying blind v TAW's glass pit. Pandion has helped me, in the past, to familiarize me with the F4 pit buttons. All of witch is out of my memory except that I found it fun, but detailed.
As I seem to be starting from scratch again with my F4 practice, I just hope I can bring my bird back home alive. TS & a hi-speed server (Comcast) makes it possible to fly with friends online. That is my passion.
If there is a place for me, as one of the ten, I would be happy to play a minor roll. Otherwise, let the best join 1st. I can be content to learn by just lurking on TS. I will print the maps you have provided. God's speed.

Another GREAT night! Thanks again!
Some things from chat:
I need the campaign file from Korea to play out and get my pilot credit, please.
I need the pilot file reader to get the details about when my promo will come.
Evidently there is a better 3rd party 3-D pit I can use. I looked at aeyes site but, everything seems to be for 16x9 monitors. Anyone know of a better 3-D pit then AF ships with for 4:3 monitors?
Thanks!

The file just presets some key sequences in Teamspeak to do things like change channels and to broadcast to all channels (this function should be primarily used by the person filling the Flight Lead seat for coord between flights) whilst in game. Now while I have designed the key binds file to use specific keys and key sequences, that doesn't mean that the selected keys and sequences are set in stone :). If anyone wants to change any or all of them its a fairly easy procedure and if you need help doing this it can be discussed during planning online before we start flying. Hope that helps .... Cheers

The file just presets some key sequences in Teamspeak to do things like change channels and to broadcast to all channels (this function should be primarily used by the person filling the Flight Lead seat for coord between flights) whilst in game. Ok I imported the file, now I will take a shot at trying to modify my Cougar files to use these commands. Thanks!

Striker, The more I practice F4:AF, the more I appreciate this sim. I enjoy & learn more about flying F4 with your Sat night LAN pilots online. I would like to fit in & be more useful. I'm taking it step by step. 1st, I needed to upgrade my box. Done. 2nd, I need to program my Saitek X52 Jstick controller. That's in progress. 3rd, Lots of practice on my own. I could use some help,, when you have time. Please pass on a few suggestions about the most important key presses you use. My reference is the F4 keymap html ,, C:\Program Files\Lead Pursuit\Battlefield Operations\docs What controller do you use? Maybe you could just pass on one of your most used F4 jstick profiles. Email sent. Thanks for the fun.

Basically I want my HOTAS to be as simple as possible so that it becomes muscle memory as soon as possible. I went with the philosophy of "things I would need in a fight" only. I have a Cougar. Hat one is 2-D pit Views Hat 2 Is cycle weapons and designate/return to search Hat 3 is radar modes Hat 4 is ECM/Defenses TG1 is Guns Button 1 is FCC submodes Button 2 is Pickle Button 3 no use Button 4 toggle look closer Throttle I manage my HUD and Missile Step with the radio button Uncage SW/pop dust cover on Mavs Speed Brake EXP on the Cursor Button Go with something simple to start and tweak/expand it as you play. EDIT*********** I will be late tomorrow... a good friend is throwing a party but, we are bringing the kids so I have an excuse to get home and play I will almost certainly miss the first sortie but hope to be home and sober enough for the 2nd hop Good Hunting!

Same here, guys. I think a lot of us have had RL matters that took us away lately. But I think a "groove" is set for some Falcon flying on line Saturdays, no matter what. Most of us who miss from time to time have no intention of dropping out - just can't make it every single Saturday.

I am happy to report,, the fun with this good old sim just keeps on giving. Thanks to my new box, Striker, & all the helpful Saturday Campaign pro pilots.
The only way to learn how to fly F4:AF is with real sim nuts, online with TS voice comms. Thanks for the fun.

Gentlemen, I forgot to mention last Saturday that I will be out of town this coming Halloween weekend. I will try to get the briefings up from the last two weekends before I travel. We will pick the campaign back up on the following Saturday, November 8th. Thanks for all your participation, support and hard work! Striker Oh well, the wife wanted to go see "Zack and Miri" anyway...

Glad I didn't miss anything. I had to do the haunted house thing Sat. and the place we went to had 3 haunted houses plus a mile long haunted trail. Needless to say, I was gone for the night. It was worth it though. Probably the best I'd experienced. They sunk a boatload of money into this place.
See ya'll Sat.

Striker, Again, I can not thank you enough for the joy and entertainment you have provided. I have been simming for over 20 years and the past few months have been the highlight of that time. I never had as much fun or satisfaction as I had playing on your server with these guys. I can not tell you how much I will miss it. I wish you nothing but the best in your travels. I look forward to the day when I can again not find the targets you are obliterating Hope to see you guys at Multi-Viper or some other similar place. Grrr... I still can't believe I missed the fight w/ the Kuznetsov!!!!!!!

Likewise, UTR. Would enjoy getting together for a group outing in lovely Balkans or Korea with the gang, perhaps next weekend. I believe any of us should be able to host; I'd be happy to try.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

Hey Striker! Good to hear from you. At least you DO have internet service now, and that's a step in the right direction.
We've talked about this before, but it's worth repeating: you don't have to host the sim flight clients in order to continue managing a campaign (or any flight) on-line. Really. There is no need:
1. You can set up a campaign or a flight on your machine, offline and save it.
2. You send the saved files to one of us.
3. One of us hosts the sim in the normal way. You do your thing verbally. We all fly. He and you both save the mission after all have RTB.
4. You can review the results off-line, any time, as you always have done. Run the thing forward if you like, make adjustments such as setting up AI flights and so forth. Save.
5. Send the saved campaign files to the person who will host (the clients and campaign files) that next week. Or you can have that person join you online Saurday, presuming one of us can connect to you...no need even to fly - he just saves your campaign setup. We all join him, and fly as always.
6. You can either make last minute changes yourself online, or coordinate suggestions with the host who makes the changes. We fly. Then that person and you both save the campaign and we're all set.
7. Rinse and repeat.

Striker! Good to hear from you. That's a step in the right direction. You don't have to host the sim flight clients in order to continue managing a campaign. Let's try Eugene's suggestion. 1 through 7 One of us can host. Any volunteers?

I hosted my single player Balkans campaign last week. OzCougar and Kodiak joined me. I plan on doing it again this Saturday if anyone is interested. Just form up on SimHQ teamspeak as usual.

Striker Dude! Great to hear from you. You are missed. At least somebody said that they heard that someone who didn't know you said, theoretically, SOMEbody might miss you. But that's really just a rumor.
Seriously, we don't even have to have the same person host every Saturday. Just so long as someone saves the campaign, and can manage to send it to you, we're good to go. Technically, if you and anyone stay on after some flights, you could even do whatever updating of orders for the ground units and AI flight tasking you want...both of you save the campaign and then we're all set up for next time. Also, the campaign files are really tiny.
So stop making excuses about your stinking computer being in a box (you know it is possible to fly Falcon on just ONE computer?). Do you have electricity? Open the box, plug it in, and send me an ICQ. Remember ICQ? Oh, and remember TEAMSPEAK?!? Jeez, Striker, do I have to fly over there and draw you a diagram?!?! Let's get out the Magic Markers and the Big Chief Chartpak..."Earth is the third planet from the big bright yellow ball in sky."
OK, maybe you are missed.

I wish it were as simple as that. Right now I'm kind of in flux because my room isn't finished yet and I still have to renovate the storage building before I can work on my room. Unfortunately, living in the desert has some major drawbacks, like sand, getting into f**king everything!!! I should be able to start work on my room this coming week and maybe in a couple weeks I'll be able to get my computers back up and running. I know the files are tiny. I'm happy to send them along as soon as I get my system back up and connected. I also have to run the LAN and TV wiring so that's part of the program in the next couple weeks along with sealing up my room from external leaks. I'm itching to get back into the cockpit ASAP so as soon as I can I'll send them to whoever can host for that evening.

Excuses, excuses. OK I understand all about sand & the desert. You are in the middle of no where. Sand is not your only concern,,, Let's just start a new campaign until you can get it together. I may even have an old saved "Striker campaign file". All we need is a volunteer CO. Any takers? I'll be on TS around 6PM PT. Let's just fly F4:AF. Fun is #one.

I will be on tonight. We can fly my Balkans 2005 campaign if you like. It's in day 3 I believe. I'll be glad to host it like I did last week.
Stiker, good luck with that sand. We can pickup your campaign when you're ready to fly. Miss ya lots!

I just tried to re-install Janes F/A-18 and the setup would not run. I attempted to format the HD and re-install windows but, it would blue screen on setup. I am gonna try and fix it tonight but, there is a good chance I will need a new ND. If thats the case, I am not sure I can get up and running by the weekend. I will certainly try though, I will keep you posted. I also got FSX Gold in the mail yesterday... wonderful time for the HD to go tits up

So I slapped the drive in question into a working system, copied over what I wanted to save (I hope I got it all), whacked all of the partitions and made a new one. I then attempted to install on that and it appears to be working.
I really hope I can get F/A-18 up tonight. As much as I love Falcon, I really miss robust virtual carrier ops!!!

Everyone losing interest? No one showed up this week except me and Oz. Maybe things are a little to sterile? I think we need a little excitement? Maybe some TEs with MiGs and SAMs? The airbase runs are a little monotonous. What do you guys think? I am hoping for a better turn out. Don't make me become a full-time Warhammer player!!!

Everyone losing interest? No. Not me! The holiday season has upset my attendance. Keep up your good work UTR. I bet we will see more MP F4:AF Saturday Campaign players in the new year.

Hey, guys! Happy Almost New Years!! On holiday here, so not as available - but as Hawkx says, things will change in the new year. I think many of the old crowd will filter bsck. UTR, I enjoy all the missions; the ones where we had two or more groups on different missions were especially interesting. I'm happy to fly most any strike, and airbases are still appealing targets for me.

Hey Striker, glad to see things are getting back to normal. As far as sending the files .... we should be OK as I made a save of the campaign on the last weekend that you hosted and we have been sharing it around between those of us that have continued to run it. I have also been running the ground war ..... and things have definitely been on the move .... as you'll see on Sat night. Anyway .... hope to see everyone online. Cheers

Campaign Update: Great missions guys this last weekend. Really unfortunate that Striker wasn't able to connect .... but keep the faith mate .... we'll get ya back online soon and then all will be well . For those who haven't been able to fly lately .... a brief update .... the war goes EXTREMELY well. Ground troops are either massing in their final assault areas .... or have started pressing towards their final objectives. All enemy airbases remain closed through OCA strikes and general harassment, or have been taken over by advancing troops. So the airspace over the battlefield belongs to the NATO forces with only the occasional resupply or probe flights being launched from the northern most bases .... which of course just provides NATO forces with a little target practice . We are well into Day 4 and barring any surprises .... should have the campaign wrapped up within the next day or so (campaign time of course ). Once again thanks to all .... and see you online next weekend. Cheers

Good stuff, sorry I missed it. I devoted my holiday vacation to getting some older PCs and games up and running so, I missed this weekends flying. The project is 90% done though so, I will be back this coming weekend.

Thanks OzCougar, for hosting and shepherding the flights Saturday evening. Good to see you guys again, and hope to fly again this Saturday. @ UTR: You are a possessed person, eaten by silicon parasites intent on consuming all your time and money until you are a homeless, desitute person wandering the streets and wondering what happened to it all.

Yeah, it was getting kind of ridiculous when I was trying to install 98 on a 915 mobo... even I said, "OK seriously, stop it... :)" It will all be worth it if I can have as much fun w/ LB2 and F-18 as I do with F4.

Great flying today with good kills .... and even a promotion . The campaign is definitely moving into its final stages with ground troops now commencing their final push into the remaining enemy territory. Air threats are basically non-existent and we also have friendly ADA coverage over most if not all of the FLOT. So it should be just a matter of mopping up any loose enemy groups that manage to slip past our ground forces as they move forward .... and then we can move onto our next campaign. Anyway .... after some discussions it has been decided that from now on the start time for our Saturday sessions will be moved forward by 1 hour to 8pm Eastern each Saturday night. This is to allow us extra time for more flying .... which can only be a good thing . OK, so .... cya all at 8pm Eastern next Saturday. Cheers

Thanks for the fun guys. See what too few hours of F4:AF practice can produce. It was still fun for me to just fly trail. All of you guys could be dangerous to an enemy. Ho, 8:00 Eastern, Copy Good luck with our little strugel.

It's great flying with you guys again, on a regular basis!
Unfortunately, the even earlier start time will make it impossible for me to join at pre-flight or first takeoff. In Mountain Time Zone, that's 6 pm, smack in the midst of our dinner. But will watch for a suitable point to join up later in the evening.

That wasn't the one I was supposed to attend. Although, the thought of an out of control truck heading into the crowd was sitting in the back of my mind though.

Campaign Update: Well its in the home stretch now .... NATO troops have pushed into the FRY capital and the surrounding areas. Final mop up operations have commenced to route the remaining enemy troops. Current campaign time is approximately 10:30AM on Day 5 .... so I would imagine that things should be wrapped up by lunch time . Hope to see everyone present for what is looking more and more like the final session of this campaign. Wouldn't want anyone to miss out on their campaign medal! We will also be finalising the planning for the next campaign so all inputs are welcome . OK .... so see everyone online next Saturday evening at 8PM sharp Eastern. Cheers

Barring more "interesting" RL events, I'll be there.

Well that's it .... the war is over!!!! FRY forces surrendered to NATO forces at 1200 local time today in a resounding victory for the allies. For those who missed out on the final mission and would like to get a credit in your logbook (and also to those who were there but for whatever reason didn't get a campaign victory recorded) .... here is a link to the most up to date campaign save files: http://www.mediafire.com/?jmymnigmw4zI re-ran the final save and this time got a save apporx 3 mins before the end. So hopefully it should run through and you should get the credit. If anyone has issues .... drop me a PM and we can see about getting it sorted . OK .... so now its onto the next campaign. The general thinking is that we try and run an ODS campaign as the next campaign. I hope everyone is up to speed on their AAR .... cause if your not then you better get practicing .... your gonna need it ! Finally, if anyone from the group doesn't have the ODS campaign installed please let someone know and we can see about getting a copy to you. So I guess that about does it for the moment .... hope to cya all at 8PM Eastern next Saturday for the kick off. Cheers P.S. As the campaign has been completed, I guess this thread has come to an end as well. A new thread for the new campaign will be opened prior to commencement of flight ops.

OzCougar, you are the man Even a campaign victory My 1st campaign victory. What fun to fly with all you guys. Now a new campaign, + a new Battlefield, "Dersert Storm" complete with "Refueling". I understand in our new ODS campaign, we will be required to use Air Refueling. "Refueling" my home work for next week. I put together a quick reference from the Falcon 4.0 Allied Force Manual I will print this guide for my refueling practice use. Feel free to add any suggestions you find helpful. Refueling instructions from Falcon 4.0 Allied Force Manual.

Oz, when you have generated a campaign in ODS on AF, how long did the "Planning" phase take before missions were generated? I tried to launch it last night, and never got any missions, regardless of how long I waited. Might be an intermittent glitch, and wouldn't show up at other times? Any advice?
Regardless, thanks again for the skins and theater files. Much appreciated!

I picked a Navy squad and sat on 64x with no missions. Then I picked an F-16 sqd and missions did generate. Having air supremacy in FRY took its toll on my BFM skills... I watch an AA-11 punch me in the face from about a mile out in an ODS mission Congrats on completing Bosnia, wish I could have been there. See you all next week.

FYI: I understand in our new ODS campaign, we will be required to use Air Refueling. Am I the only MP F4:AF that needs practice with "Air Refueling"? Happy hunting. For AF, he has 3 different F-16 Pits.... CG, CJ or AM. My question is, will the pit I purchase ALWAYS load, no matter what jet I fly or will I only get to use the pit if the sqd I fly in in the game uses that exact model F-16? Thanks!
