So how many of these have you seen? I've only seen Firefly.

I've seen Space: Above and Beyond, which I quite liked, and Brisco County Jr., of which I only remember the name, but have no recollection whatsoever about what it was all about.

Space was a too dark and dystopic for its time. It was sharing the same problem Blade Runner was facing back when it got released. The audience wasn't ready for such a thing. Even more so since the pilot was kinda "false advertising": it gave the impression of being an action-packed, "hooah"-style sci-fi space opera about some cool space marines (hell, Lee Ermy was reprising his role as Gunny Hartman), when it pretty soon became a dark, dystopic series where it more and more became apparent that mankind were the real villians, not the "Chicks".

In some way it was a crude predecessor of the new BSG.

I've read a lot of stuff online making comparisons between Space Above & Beyond and BSG. I'll have to take the time some day and check out the show on dvd. I'll at least watch the pilot and give it a chance.

I tried watching S:AaB when it was first on and just didn't like it. A little bit too much "Jarheads in Space" for my taste.

I'd include B5 Crusade in there also. It was really going to go into some interesting direction in terms of the series arc apparently.

And unlike the other shows in that list, Crusade didn't get a chance to show what kind of ratings it would get since it was cancelled by TNT before the first episode even aired. I did watch the 13 episodes of Crusade on dvd a couple years ago and I enjoyed it quite a bit. \:\)

I think the only reason SG-1 survived 10 seasons was because it was on cable and the first 5 seasons was on a premium pay cable channel!

Space Above and Beyond was very good. Nowhere Man, on the other hand, was not. It was a cheap knockoff of X-Files and while it alluded to a larger overarching mystery, it had the vibe that the story was being made up along the way by a 10-year old with a Hawaiian Punch-and-BubbleYum-fueled imagination.

I myself was wondering why SG-1 wasn't on that list, oh wait, Scifi channel canceled it because they didn't want to pay for it's production costs any more.

Exactly. Now they can provide us with all of those wonderful ultra low budget "Made for Sci-Fi" movies like Chupacabra and SS Doom Trooper!

I watched Frankenfish too. And Path of Destruction. And Manticore. Dog Soldiers, Boa vs Python, Dragon Fighter, Hammerhead Shark Frenzy, and one that I can't remember the name of featuring a giant Crocodile that killed a team of "elite bounty hunters."

You will get more chuckles per minute from SciFi original movies than any "comedy" show.

The best part about the SciFi channel is that in every show the actors use the same cheesy headset microphones.

Even more inexplicable are some of the decent actors who have been in these cruddy Sci-Fi Channel movies like John Rhys-Davies and Bruce Boxleitner. I guess they need the money.

well, don't forget that bruce boxleitner is pretty much a b-level tv actor, so it's no departure for him to star in tv b-movies.

I think it was called CROCODILE 2 : DEATH ROLL.

The title was in a very scary font.

I'm a huge fan of MST3K and that sounds like a great idea. I'll have to try that some day. \:\)
