Running a solo event Auto Cross this weekend just for kicks...doesn't count for my license. My next race will be in a couple weeks at Nelson Ledges...hope I keep it on course...lol.

I've found autocross to be very helpful in fine tuning car control, racing discipline and course reading. It forces you to internalize the "slow is fast" approach because literally EVERY corner is a setup for the next on and so on down the line. You overcook one and you're hosed for the next several.

The only downside is the ugly ratio of time in the car to time sitting on your bum. \:\)

Wife says she'll definately be at the autocross this weekend...since the course they're setting up is 10 minutes from my house...lol.

Geezer, I was kind of thinking the same thing about autoX helping with setting up for cornering and stuff. There were a couple times at Indy where I'd be in a good groove and knew where to set up for each corner, but if I stepped out of that groove at all it took me a couple more corners to get back into it.

I'll remember...Slow is Fast. I think we get three runs each. Not sure how many have preregistered or how many will show up with their money in hand to run this. It's coinciding with our city festival so there may be a good number of cars showing up.

Check out this thread for some seriously useful tips - especially the part about the slalom techniques. Andy is a local (to me) autocross guy and a national champion. You might also know him as the guy behind the original Microprose F15 Strike Eagle (amongst other things ;\)

Wow, great read Geezer, and yeah I've heard of Andy. ;\) I think a Miata is a rwd car so I wonder if all the tips hold true for a fwd Neon. I'd think so. Think I'll print that out and study it. Thanks for showing it to me.

2nd in class (G Stock) behind my buddy who owns the car by .5 second. We co-drove the car.

1st place Novice driver out of about 9-10 novices at the event. \:D

I'll do a write up ASAP...and those tips did work! \:\)
