Apparently, AIM-4s were able to aquire hot truck engines (at night?) and used with some success against such ground targets.
In the game, AIM-4s fly ballistically straight when they have no target acquired and their warhead detonates on impact... so I have used them quite reliably as somewhat accurate rockets for taking out radars and AAA when on strike or SEAD missions with F-4Ds carrying 4xAIM-4. This is especially useful since I don't carry gunpods on F-4Ds... While certainly not a historically realistic application, I find it both challenging and great fun. When I was beta testing campaigns for a patch is when I learned to do this. When I was in practice, I could easily get at least 3 hits out of 4 shots every missions.
