Ok, I ask this cause really don't know it. Just noted that the new patch is released so I downloaded and installed on one working installation, then I get the error 7217. So my question is? Is 7217 not fixed in the new exe?? Some time ago I downloaded a kind of beta exe, you can try it here:

that fixed my 7217 error and at same time let me use the EAW scrrens, default and addon. Don't know how thisexe fixed the 7217 problem, but is not possible to add his solution to the 1.28 exe please??

I looked at your exe, that is one of Mr. Jelly's so he will have to interpret that; but I CAN tell you that a true 7217 fix is not possible without a major revision of the source code. A revision of this magnitude would create an exe that is not backwards compatible. The goal of the 1.28 exe was to take the current game as far as we could while remaining compatible with all the mods that are currently out there. The 7217 fix prevents that goal; so you will have to wait for the next phase, or perhaps Mr. Jelly can provide info on the potential of a 7217 workaround for this exe....

I can play everything with Mr.Jelly patch, I can see correclty all the screens, maps, planes, terrains, skins... So it seems that is backwards compatible. I will love to know If Mr.Jelly 7217 problem solution is insertable to the 1.28 patch so I can have 7217 solved and still play the new patch

One question: Let's say that Microprose and the original EAW team were still around. Would it be a simple task for them to patch the exe to solve the 7217 problem? By that I'm asking, is the difficulty mainly in deciphering and reverse engineering the code, or would the original designers have had such trouble with it too?

The 7217 error is NOT a simple problem. The issue is that all of the screens in default EAW are 8 bit screens. Newer video cards tend to NOT support 8 bit. So, you get an error.

If I recall correctly, Mr. Jelly's fix set up a new front end of the game, which was very simplified. It skips over all over the default menu screens and puts you directly into play. This is really a work around for the problem, not a fix.

The 7217 can NOT be truelly fixed in the EAW world of today. It requires ALL of the front end to be re-written. This will make the game uncompatible for a lot of older mods. I think most campaigns would be affected the most.

Mr. Jelly may be able to make a work around appliccable to this new exe, but a true fix will have to wait for a new generation of EAW.

Jack have you tried the exe I posted? Is not putting me directly into play, I can see the whole game!!, main screens, selection screens, hangars... then I start the game and runs perfectly. Give a try and you will see

There's a thing that annoys me, I have some single mission problems with Mr.Jelly patch. I can select what kind of mission or the target, can someone confirm please?

The exe released in December last year was released to see if a compiled exe would run on players' PCs and to get feedback about problems running it.
It did include a 7217 "fix" for testing too.
Since then the 7217 problem has escalated with the advent of newer cards and drivers(see my screen tearing post in the thread).

Now, I have just done an eight hour drive from NSW back to Adelaide, so I am not going to rush into programming right now. However, for those who can run the "December 2007" version without screen tearing I will try to edit the 1.28 code with the same fixes. I will need some time and a clear head to do this.

Still need to make some more and specially more deep trials, but at the moment is working perfectly, can fly with all the screens working and the new patch perfectly integrated.

Let me get this right.
#1 you think this MAY work flawlesly with Geforce cards 7 series and less.
#2 you think 8 series and above cards could have screen tearing, but if know the keyboard commands, they can fly EAW patch 1.28.

It works for me on my 7600 GS card I may have to work overtime to get the 8500 GT I've wanted if this is true.
I'd like some input from any new users who try this patch.

My previous card was a 6600 GT and I could use any of the 7217 fixes without screen tearing. As far as I have heard the series 7 cards are OK too, but I cannot run the 8400 GS without screen tearing.
