You can't use SLI with SofTH unless you have a third PCI-Express GPU.

One thing i was worried about was "reduced" performance.

I bought my new computer cause i wanted to have RACE07 to run in all its splender and didn't want to have that ruined.

SoftTH hasn't had me lowered my settings one bit in RACE07, GTR2 or rFactor. I max out the graphic on my 8800GTS / Intel6850 and 4 GB ram setup. I have yet to discover any worse performance. If i should run some fps counter i would probably see a decline, but thats nothing i experience while racing. Soo, please take the "worse performance" with a grain of salt. It will tax your system. But its not neccessarily very bad.

Good thing you can do to improve performance is running the side monitors in a lower resolutions. People are running as low as 640x480. (Not me). And people is also running the side monitors on a different color depth (16bit).

The only downside i see with softth:

a) It crashed rfactor everytime when i alt-tab out. \:\(
b) You must have the knowledge and room to fit another PCI-e. Preferable in a x16 slot (i have).

Matrox is also much better in software support.

And look at the official supported games and ask your self in what games do i want to use it. If you are a FSX addict, move along, get a matrox. If you are a carsimfreak. GTR2, rFactor, RACE, LFS and also reports of iRacing is supported with this.

As my left screen i have a discarded tft monitor from work. Half the screen works, the rest is ... totally rubbish. But when you drive you focus on the center screen and notice stuff in the left and right monitor. (i.e why people don't mind fiddling with resolutions on the side monitors)

I know i can't transfer your money to my world. But in my world a XBOX game cost $100 ~ 550-600 SEK.
A 8600 cost $100 ~550-600 SEK. Cheaper cards is by merarly 100-200 SEK so it was a no brainer for me.

Having a triplehead setup adds so much to the imerssion of the game that i couldn't believe. And sine the only cost was 1/6th of the price of a Matrox box i just had to try it. Are you tech savvie, you have room and you don't mind spending the weekly lunch money on a new graphic card. This is certainly worth trying.

Oh i forgot, the biggest downside (really) was that i really wanted to race Talladega. Just to be able to see the views!

Today i will go gett me a 22" monitor as the center. This *is* my gaming configuration for times to come!

\:\)

Ps.
If i don't get married because of this? Who cares!

LOL, my girlfriend decided to marry me long after she had dealt with my 3 huge monitors on my desk. Some people can cope. \:\)

Welcome to the wonderful world of triplehead gaming, Thomas. Are you using the "Multiview" option in rFactor? I find it helps immensely.

Thanks Joe. You mean there is hope? I am shocked! (I even think to join the f1 circus again, just because off this.. its sick!)

I bought me a new 20" monitor (widescreen) to use as center. (I involved some collegues to measure 22" and 17", and how they would fit together... then i retired early from work). We decided to go with 20" instead and It fits perfectly between my two 17". I am working my way through every sim currently! But I was blown away off the support in lfs. ;\)

When we talk about performance.

Running LFS in 4250x1050 with 4AA and 16xAnisotropic. I got 35 FPS, When i removed AA and Aniso i got 70. I dont remember what i got before. But the resolution is sick so i wasn't surprised of the number.

Not all is beatutiful in the green forest.

RACE07 in a triplehead configuration does show problems. These are disappearing objects in the side monitors when using to great resolution (affect the FOV (Field of view)). 3 x 5:4 monitors doesn't do it as bad. But put a widescreen monitor in the middle and you will experience trouble.

These trouble can be minimized by using FOV 80, which for some reason is the lowest FOV you can set in the Steam version. (In the offline version you can hack the cockpitfiles). You will also have a severe case of fishbowl effect. Some react to that more then others.

To the rescue though enters version 1.08 that is a rc1 (release candidate to a beta software hm... ;\) ). In 1.08 you can play with lenscorrection (a post processing thing) which correct this fishbowl effect just wonderful. On the negative side is that everything will be affected by this (menus particular). Altough, its easy to turn off when your in game so its not that big of a problem. Having this lenscorrection is a really powerful tool.

1.08 doesn't work in GTR2 for some reason, but since this is dll files installation that you put in your gaming directory, every game can use that version of softth thats works for that game and your configuration.

I run gtr2 and rfactor in pretty low fov and you can debate the use of widescreen gaming when using a FOV of 55. But i did try to use the normal FOV on my widescreen monitor and i felt distanced from the car.

Your mileage my vary. I felt i just wanted to add this information for someone to find.
