LOL! (trusted, huh) Freycinet, first we'll have to start calling them the "NEOQB" or "KOTS" Team (or wait to finally get that belated official announcement that there was a change in ownership).

Closed Beta test input always reminds me of "The Argument Sketch" by Monty Python. Those who wait till official release can actually enjoy the sim. Trying to break the game or repeat an action about 100 times to make sure it's consistent is about as much fun as pulling teeth. I admire those willing to suffer through it. Did I mention I'm a masochist? S!

I can promise some nice fanboy reviews on my website if I get to play the demo But honestly I think I'll have to upgrade my computer, which I've been meaning to do for a while: Intel Pentium 4 2.50GHz (single core.. boo!) 1GB RAM ATI All-In-Wonder 9800 256MB (hey, I do a lot of video capture! it plays games somewhat decently though) Mostly I need to upgrade the entire motherboard because I have no PCI express slots on it. I built it back in 2004 when AGP was looking to be the future.

One doesn't scoff exactly at the sight of prostitution one maintains a dignified silence
Being able to maintain a dignified silence is required of beta testers
That and the virgin sacrifice, just ask

Thanks for your PM FlyRetired. So, the package will be behind the public lavatory on XXX street, on Monday, is it?

Mount & Blade (an indi game) released early at a discount, to help them keep up the work. The result is instant cash flow, free (and numerous) bug testers, happy customers who get to play early and pay less cash, and a mod community that is already active and will have some very nice material upon the release date, as well as instant customer feedback.
Every few months they release a new build, and every little while (every two or three builds) they up the price a bit. I bought mine at $11, lost the key, bought the next one a long, long time later at $20 or so, and the full price should be normal game retail price of $30, I'd guess.
This could work for KOTS. Keep the early releases net-only until the full price package arrives, at which point the game retails on the shelves.

Yes but there are limits.
Overly protracted developments don't tend to lead to polished products, there's many examples, flight sims are especially bad for this. Rowans BOB, B172, F4 .... I could go on.

I'd rather wait and have it when its finished rather than some overly buggy game released to early.. I can understand this, nobody enjoys a new game that crashes during campaigns and other critical moments, but computer software is almost never perfect. Particularly when everyone involved in coding a game is under pressure to finish and release the game. Which is why the option of releasing a demo for minimal price- with consequent discount on the final release- is a reasonable option. Picture this: KotS pre-release demo is offered for $5. Everyone enthusiastic downloads and plays it. Gennadich get a lot of feedback, an indication of the amount of interest in the market, and revenue to help market the product. And I'd get to play something now, while I can still devote the time. The downside to this is what we keep hearing about demos, that they don't get released anymore because of cracking issues for the full game.

KotS pre-release demo is offered for $5I honestly think that this could work mate. Bands are making tracks and asking people to pay them a few quid, whatever we can afford, whatever we think the songs are worth. Flight-sims are so much more important than music, in one ear and out the other and soon forgotten. More rock and roll please VikS. I'd go $20 USA myself, your dollar might be some other dollar have you got your own currency now <runs away> Ming
