This is still a WIP, but I wanted to let everyone know that you can monitor both the SimHQ and Smooth Is Fast rFactor servers online at http://smoothisfast.com. This is basically for our league use only due to my bandwidth restrictions, which although is a T1, is what SiF uses to host rfactor, and is my Internet connection. In the future, I'm hoping to move it to a SimHQ web server, but for now it is there for you to enjoy.

The web server is using rFactorWebView to create the output. I use another utility, rFactorTrackMapper to create the tracks. I know that sometimes they are a bit small. For league races, I'll kick them up a bit, but larger maps increase bandwidth.

This is also handy for a quick check to see if anyone is online practicing. I hope that you find it useful.

Monitor the servers here: http://smoothisfast.com

For web admins who want to try running their own timing, you will find rFactorWebView here: http://rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=rFactorWebView

My bad David. That was only for anyone with a web server wanting to try running it. Everyone else just follow the links on Smooth Is Fast. Doug will probably want to link the SimHQ server somewhere on the home page, but we need to do some bandwidth planning first.

Curiosity (and "reasonable" access to a SONET-based 155mb/sec of pipe \:D ) leads me to ask what sort of bandwidth demands a typical SimHQ / SiF race generates.

5 mbit/sec symmetrical or higher? (Boss would flip if in "prime time" [5pm - 11pm EDT] )

1.5 mbit/sec (T1)? (Boss would want to see non-impact on above timeframe)

384 kbit/sec or 786 kbit/sec symmetrical? (Boss wouldn't care much, if at all)

I've got spare hardware from my F@H days gathering dust (look for Strikemaster in the Stanford stats ), a 4U case to stuff it in, and rack space in the NOC that won't be used when we 'Ebay' a couple of Sun Enterprise 450s that can't keep up with our user email traffic. Seriously, if this email/spam tsunami was sewage, the EPA would shut us down!

Just a thought.

It's great. Last Friday I had both real live timing and this running in a corner of one of the monitors at work. Another guy came to see how Alonso was doing, peered at the screen and said:
*Why are there 2 timing screens?
*What's Scott Speed doing there?
*Who the **** is pierre1?
