Hello, Mates. I am brand new to Gaming, and Silent Hunter IV specifically. My Kids bought SH4 for me, for Christmas. I have it patched, up to 1.4. My location is crawling with retired sailors, but I have yet to find ONE that plays ANY of these games…except one Air Corps guy [I know, USAF…but some things die slowly], and I don’t know a thing about airplanes. He knows nothing of ships. For that matter I’ve never crossed the brow of a sub. So I’ll try to learn SH4 independently. I may need help along the way. I have registered with SUBSIM / SimHQ / and Ubisoft…forums. I understand there are dire consequences for asking a question already talked about in the vast number of postings, but I do know how to search and will do my darnedest to find my own answers. If I can’t, or don’t understand, I’ll ask; please be forgiving… I will have tried!

Thanks, Bill

Welcome Bill from Washington State! \:\) Glad to see you registered with the right websites for your Submariners Pleasures. SH4 is a grand game that I thoroughly enjoy and it calms me down after a long day. I can only guess but I take it you have not played any of the other games in the series, so I think you will enjoy the experience you are about to incur. We have our resident experts here for which can probably handle many, if not all of your questions that you may or may not ask. But I have to say that the majority of OUR experts are also the experts at SUBSIM as well, since both of these websites have many cross-memberships.

But first off, please don't feel that you may be asking a stupid question, because I have the belief that the only stupid question is the one NOT asked. But I guess you have heard that saying already. I still somewhat think of myself new to the game, even though I have been playing it for a year now. Why do I say that? Because whenever I play the game I find something new about it that I did not know before. It could be a keystroke shortcut, a mouse shortcut, when to dive and not to dive, and other simple but not known moves.

But you need some experience sailer, so let's hit the seas!

Thanks a lot. Yes, this is my first 'gaming' shot. As I said, I know a guy that was a V/N F4 jock that plays... I believe 'Falcon'. He both tipped me off to the forums as a tool, AND cautioned about posting of 'old' questions. I am not new to 'computering', but to the gaming aspect. I really wasn't aware there were 'non-kid' games around until Santa produced SH4 and I began snooping for a local experienced player. I'll go slow, devote a certain amount of time to each day, see how it goes.

Welcome Mr Bill. I hope you enjoy SH4 as much as we do. As you no doubt notice, it is a very scalable game the let's you start off with alot of difficulty functions set to easy, especially targetting. Or you can jump in head-first and be as hard core as you like. Either way, we are here to help with answers or good sources for answers.
