Thanks for the feedback Kassie.

Most of me already believes that is the issue, but a little part of me is in denial and will probably continue grasping at anything that comes along for another week or so in hopes that I might resolve the issue... \:D

Arneh may be my only hope at this point...

Resolved or not, thanks for the help everyone.

*edit* - one more thing to add. My new laptop has a widescreen monitor, where the old one didn't. I don't think that should matter, but I thought I'd mention it. Also looks like the newer graphics chip is supposed to support DX 10. http://softwarecommunity.intel.com/articles/eng/1488.htm Maybe that is part of the problem.

Some people have posted problems and solutions with dual core. I would search for that.

Do you see terrain with the auto action camera?

I would set the ini options mentioned above to zero to see what happens.

Have you tried copying the ini and cfg files from the computer that works?

I always need notnl = 1 and you could try nrt = 1.

Someone had a weird laptop problem that cleared by setting fs=0.

This is a tough problem because all guesses are ruled out by other factors.

You may be right, it's a conspiracy between M$ and Intel to sell more Vista.

I'll try some of the stuff you suggested. The action camera shows the same thing I see from the cockpit or any external view - terrain for about 20' and then "white fog".

I actually copied the old (working) install of the game off my old laptop and put it on a portable hard drive. Then I plugged into the new laptop and ran it from there. Game loaded fine, but I got the same graphics problem when I jumped into the cockpit.

I did a search for "Dual Core" in the EECH forum. This was the only thing I found that seemed relevent: http://www.simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.ph...rue#Post2460430 There's a post with a link to some fixes for Dual Core problems. If anyone knows of more Dual Core related EECH fixes out, please send them my way.

Thanks for the tips!

That was a good idea copying from your other laptop. That points pretty heavy to the new graphic hardware/software. EECH is DX7 so I wonder if other DX7 games would work. I guess you've ran dxdiag and run the tests. I think you can turn down hardware acceleration two notches and EECH will still start.

Whoa there... You lost me.

I ran a dxdiag just to check it out, but didn't know what I was looking for. What do I need to look for when I run it to see if DX7 games will work?

Secondly, what do you mean by turn down hardware acceleration two notches...?

You have given me hope again!

A) Run dxdiag
B) Click on the "Display" tab
C) Now click on the "Test Direct3D" button

It will now run a series of tests of a spinning cube in the different flavours of DirectX...

To turn the Graphics acceleration down:

1) Right click on desktop and choose "Properties"
2) Now click on the "Settings" tab
3) Click on the "Advanced" button
4) Somewhere on the screen that appears there should be a "Troubleshoot" tab, click on this
5) You should now see a slider, drag this to the left one notch then click on the OK button and OK out of Display Properties
6) Try and run EECH
7) If it doesnt work run steps 1-5 once again

Hope this helps

Cheers

Well, none of that worked still. The 3D Drawing tests all worked fine, and adjusting accelerator settings didn't change anything.

But if anyone has anymore suggestions please keep throwing them out. Maybe something will work...

There is another weird thing that EECH does that seems related to your problem. The colors in the rgb file bleed into the terrain colors but only at the same distances you describe. I don't know why that happens but my guess is it has something to do with some FOG DirectX function calls that EECH uses. It looks like the fog is applied according to distance and to the terrain only and not the sky. Maybe your system isn't handling these fog functions correctly.

Does it do the exact same thing with a mod map and an original map?

Does it do the exact same thing with the original EECH exe with the official Razorworks patch before you install the modded exec?

You could search and post your problem on the SimHQ hardware forum. That may be where I saw a dual core problem.

http://forums.guru3d.com/ has good forums with a lot of traffic for graphic troubleshooting.

Do you have another old flight sim like Mig Alley or something that uses Dx7 that you could try?

I can sympathize with you because a trouble like this would drive me nutz.

First of all, thanks for continuing to help me trouble shoot this. It definitely seems to have something to do with fog. Terrain and objects don't show up unless very close from cockpit or external views. They do show up normally in the FLIR, which is weird and adds to the frustration! Now let me answer you questions...

Mod map or original - I'm not sure which are which. If you let me know, I'll try...

Yes the problem is the same with the razorworks patch only. (I guess that kind of answers the map question as well).

Post on the hardware forum - one step ahead of you there: http://www.simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2478749#Post2478749 Still wasn't able to fix it.

I'll check out that other forum you linked to.

Don't have any other DX7 games... I think. Maybe I can find a demo to download for free and try... *found one. I'll try it*

Is there a way to turn off or disable fog? Maybe that could fix it...
