I'll never finish it, and I doubt PSYKLIK will ever have time to merge his incredible parallel developments into it either. But maybe someone will be inspired... This is the only beta released. Fully functional, but follow the install instructions. Use at your own risk, no support implied, not for sale, yada yada. Sorry I couldn't bring this one home. Have fun. http://www.simwarrior.com/gunship/GSTOS_beta.htmlfng

Hi guys- Good to see you all, too. Sorry this is so long in coming, but I hope folks will still enjoy it. IIRC, I *think* this version is free-standing- just in case you can't find that old Gunship CD ... I'll rummage around and see if there are any updated bits that can be uploaded as easy patches. Many thanks to all the folks who contributed, especially Keith Bedford, Polak, PSYKLIK, Stratos and the good folks at 1st Bear Hunter Squadron. WB also came up with many great enhancements since this beta was done. He posted a lot of them that can probably be manually added to this version. Try here: Wills Gunship page: http://members.fortunecity.com/whb11/GunshipTool/Gunship.htmPSYKLIKs Waypoint site has compendious info abou the internals of GS: http://www.waypoint.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/(He also has more great stuff that I'll link to if he says ok...) And of course samovar6 has lots of cool new bits, too: http://samovar6.fortunecity.com/This was an incredibly fun project, right up until it wasn't... But so much more is now known and so many more tools are now available, it could be carried on to amazing places if there is the passion for it. Be well- fng

So please accept warmest Hi from Polak too.
GTOS mod is one of most interesting around. I hope that we can continue this Project even if by chipping little by little at the time to it. I hope I will find some time to do my part.
This forum was full of very lively, interesting and revealing discussions about Gunship! and modding. At one time I have learned a lot from here thanks to guys like fng2k, Keithb77, WB, Psyklik, Samovar. It was the Company and not so much the game which was so magnetic. It is a really pitty that this forum is not so active in further advancing glory of Gunship!.
Thank you all and be well.

This is what I "love" about this forum. Kind of like in "hover" mode. Anyway, after I placed this reply yesterday I "rolled back my sleeves" and did quick conversion of my SF:P1 terrain. Here are some photos with results but I rush to say that PCX indexed conversion does some hurt to quality of textures. Original textures were converted from the SF:P1 game so my plug here should not hurt anyone's feelings. At the moment I'll probable leave at that because IIRC changing of the palette (to produce better PCXs) would be rather quite extensive job. So for now thats that: Sorry for the lenght and many pictures , but by doing this conversion I wanted to pay my tribute to my old friends of this forum and fng2k in particulary. Thank you for all you done for Gunship! and all you took to explain its beauty to me.

I'll echo the sentiments of everyone else.
Thanks for all your work, fng2k. It is indeed a pleasure to see you return to this forum, however briefly.
And all of you guys on the TOS project did a kick-ass job!
Polak, there's no need to apologise for the pics of your tiles. They look fantastic.

Glad you like the look of them. They are good for d/l and link is given in the other thread. I was also hoping that maybe some online Gunship! can be as a result of GSTOS mod. Which in fact is great and due credit obviously has to go to fng2k and other guys who created it. After I did that mod I browsed simwarrior.com to find many new programs and tools to further mod this helo sim. And perhaps I gladly would, but where is everybody ...

Hi again folks- Wow! Polak, Avimimus, Da Nockeister! All the usual suspects! Great to see you guys. Polak, that terrain is nifty. I had tried converting your SF tiles o GS a while ago, but had probs with the palette and didn't pursue it. Yours looks alot better. The city tiles kinda puzzled me. The scale difference is more obvious in your tiles, but I couldn't figure out why. Maybe the bigger puzzle is why the city tiles in the original SF:P1 tiles I used (Deuces version), seemed to look just right in GS, even though the scale is drastically different. Were the SF tiles even scaled correctly for SF? Weird... Been flying a little in GSTOS recently. Actually forgotten how good most of it looks, especially with your new Cobra and UN Hip skins, Polak. Brilliant work. I dropped PSYKLIK a note to see if he had any GSTOS stuff he wanted to release, too, but I haven't heard back yet. This GSTOS beta should work OK in MP if anyone gets to try it. Just make sure everyone uses the same version and not vanilla GS. Updated my website a little. Unfortunately my little bit of leisure time is about over, but I will try to keep an eye on things... be well, guys- fng

Hi fng2k, I also was flying a little GSTOS in both versions of the tiles and found it very nice. As far as scale is concerned since my tile looks out of scale in Gunship 600 m/tile because perhaps it was scaled properly for SF:P1 -2000 m /tile. I have mentioned that concern already in my thread (somwhere there), but then "bravely" returned noneless and completed the task. I was also trying to mess with object placing on city tile, but that 32 limit is a boomer . It was real pleasure and privilege to chat with you and others on this forum, but clearly I see that GS belongs now to the history. So much went into researching content of that sim and your and Psyklik's ..and WB's research are prime and proud examples of that. All others not mentioned too. You personally are responsible for injecting me with this "virus" of "must know how it was made" - I moved from place to place, but it was (and still is) hell of a fun. Let me know if anything is worth to pursuit. I am around. For now, thanks again and ...

I agree Polak- GS has been a great project over the years. I learned an incredible amount of useful stuff from other modders like you, while taking years off my life doing all niters. I'm not sure GS is dead an buried yet. Some skilled folks are still doing neat stuff...

I feel like Jim Belushi breaking the fourth wall in The Man With One Red Shoe: "OH, COME ON!!!!" Where are the YCG settings for the flight models located in this to get rid of the wings leveling? They all need to be set to ZERO. Even though the install is missing the custom.ini file, it recognizes mine from the original install when I copy it over into the data folder. But it will not pick up the flt1.ini. If it's hardcoded and they want the numerous new flight models not adjusted, that's cool. But the YCG setting is not really the flight model and needs to be kept out of the hard coding/encoded exe (wherever the heck it is). It's just the simulated AFCS, which should be left adjustable for us if possible. Besides, if you wanted to make it accurate for people with expensive pole cyclics and trimmer buttons (though I doubt that was even on anyone's mind), you'd still have the X axis YCG set to zero (even if Y was not) and a custom.ini with 1.0 on the X and Y cyclic ranges. The YCG setting affects both X and Y, though, so you need to just have it at zero. Again, Sands of Time didn't even have the custom.ini in the data folder. Assuming having the new FMs requires it be integrated somewhere else and in light of the fact it affects X & Y and no one except me even uses GlovePIE to do things like trimmer buttons, YCG needs to be set at ZERO. Simple. No if ands or but(t)s. With those two things going on, I mean, arcadey is being gentle. Did people realize there is errant full-axis wings leveling and extreme bank limits with SOT? Why am I the only one that noticed that, dudes? Who on earth is this "real helo pilot" who came up with and signed off on this aspect of SOT? I mean, it's four years later and I'm the only one that noticed this? Did you guys fly it or just look at pretty pictures? HEH HEH. "OH, COME ON!!!!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWtgcQeBFX8

Not sure but think it just needs the missions finished and tidied up.Started looking at an order of battle for the scenarios involved. I was reading through Psyklik's notes the other day and realised that there's been a huge amount of work already invested in TOS. It's now possible to implement Cruise Missiles, A Truck Bomb, Scud Missiles, Technicals, Urban based fighting and more new vehicles and Helos. Those things open up all sorts of possibilities for new styles of Missions & Campaigns. We have a fantastic base to carry this work on if the desire is there. All we need now are the People and the Tools!!!!

Cool.Interesting to hear of all the updated mods but what platoons are they and how are they implemented in game? Pysklik explains this in his Design/Hack notes document. If you downloaded the folder i sent you a link to then you should already have this, but i've e-mailed you a copy just in case you don't have it.

Hi guys! I have recently downloaded the beta of this mod from the Gunship Helipad site. However, when I try to run it, I get an error that reads:
"The program can't start because binkw32.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."
I've tried reinstalling and installing from a fresh download. Can anyone send me the file for this mod? Thanks!
Regards,
Ian

Osterizer8-
You might want to google and see if that dll is on the net somewhere.
I've never played Gunship (although now I wish I had it!) but that bink sounds like a movie player dll. If you put a -nomovie or something like that in the command line, that also might help.
Not sure, but I've seen things like that work for other games in the past.

Alright, I tried adding -nomovie to the command line, but it didn't work. I downloaded Bink 32 and put it in the TOS folder. However, I now get a message saying "The procedure entry point_BinkSetVolume@8 could not be located in the dynamic link library bink32.dll." Do I have to edit something in the file, and if so, what program should I use to open it? Also, I tried just copying the bink32.dll from the original Gunship directory to the TOS folder and I didn't get an error. Message. The game appeared to begin starting up, but then just crashed and I got the usual "gunshipTOS_v4A_shipsHiD.exe has stopped working." I figured it might work, but I guess TOS needs other settings or something. Thanks for your help so far!

Ian

I love Gunship! and had it running nice on Windows 7 in a previous install. With a new computer with 2 Radeon HD 6850 in Crossfire the game just stutters. Any suggestions what I can do?

Tis a great game, do you still have windows 7? Dont know if this will help but i found that to get it to run on my computer with windows 7, which though has an NVIDIA card, I had to have the setup.exe set with its compatibility setting as win xp or something earlier - cant recall exactly, winxp sp2 perhaps. This may or may not work. If that fails then run it is VMware player - its pretty excellent as a virtual xp machine - i have found it can run games pretty well - i cna run Lock On on it extremely well (it wont run in win 7)
