For +G, and anyone else interested:

The AC6 HOTAS does indeed work on the PC. Upon hot plugging the USB it is recognized as an Xbox 360 Controller, auto-loading drivers from XP if first use. It is then listed under the 'Game Controllers' control panel. Going to Properties/Test I verified basic functionality.

Without doing any calibration I loaded up the always ammenable Strike Fighters, and assigned the X/Y (pitch/roll stick) and Z axis (throttle thrust) in-game. As expected, there was no way to assign buttons in this sim, and control of views was inoperable. I was able to get 75% thrust and reasonably flyable stick control. I then returned to the XP game controller applet and calibrated the axis. Back in-game I got full throttle range and full stick control.

I buzzed around the airfield awhile, and was instantly re-immersed in my Saitek X36 days, since that's essentially what this controller suite is.

I don't have any Xbox type games on my PC, so was unable to test button capability, but I have no doubts they would be/are valid given that this HOTAS suite is at heart a 360 controller in HOTAS form.

I wonder if Saitek software would further facilitate button assignment? Most likely not, as again this is really an Xbox 360 controller in Saitek clothing.

Thanks for the update.

I bet this utility would help you with the button mappings.

i might look at it later on, after X-Mas i'll prolly order thru Gamestop, i knew it would work on the PC,

as for the Buttons, they "SHOULD" work, my 360 USB Controller's Buttons work in SF/WoV/WoE when i Hook it up,

as for the Ace Edge stick, its not a Saitek stick, the shell may resemble it, but the insides are a completely different company. (HORI) http://www.hori.jp/us/index.html

True indeed. The innards are strictly a 360 controller, as I cited. But the outards are 99 44/100% Saitek X36, albeit a white set.

Have you tried the drivers from http://www.redcl0ud.com
They are much better than the M$ drivers and allow reassignment of axes etc etc.

I've already got at least 4 joysticks so I'm not allowed another.......

Cheers,
keith

The problem with the Ace Edge on the PC is that windows (xp anyway) recognizes the throttle aswell as the rudder rocker, arm as both Z axis. So of course you want the throttle, so what to do about rudder? PITA.

I hadn't used my stick in several weeks, getting hooked on CoD4. When I plugged it into my 360 yesterday the main logo button blinked green briefly and then nada. Same thing on my PC.

A friend of mine's stick died similarly just a few days ago. We suspect poor grounding on the usb connector makes it extremely susceptible to electrostatic discharge.

Make sure if you do buy the stick it's from a place you can readily return it if you encounter similar.

Obviously I'd now be hesitate to recommend this gear!

On another hardware note, my MS wireless steering wheel came back from the voluntary recall in just under a month. Looks to be a new unit and works great.

Wow, do I feel like an idiot. I tried it one more time and discovered the stick cable usb-adapter socket wasn't fully seated. Works AOK now.

Happy New Year All \:\)
