One of my friend's has bought a new pc with vista on it and was hoping to use it to fly FB online and hopefully join our squad. I spent about 3 hours wrestling with the infernal machine just trying to install it. I took good advice from this site not to put it into prog files but we've still got some problems. I've tried searching the forum but can't find much about these particular glitches.

1. This is weird...His joystick axes are reversed! Tried doing the usual joystick things but still no luck so I left him with it facing backwards for now.

2. Installed HyperLobby but it doesn't work.

3. Installed Teamspeak but it doesn't work.

4. Installed no cd crack but it still requires his cd in the tray.

I'm going back over next week sometime to try to finish the job. Has anyone had similar problems with IL2 and vista?

I've heard that upgrading to XP does the trick ;\)

Seriously, I have no idea why people have rushed to embrace this OS when XP is stable and pretty easy to deal with...PLUS it runs all your programmes and sticks etc with very few problems.

I'm sure those that are more knowledgeable about Vista will answer for you pretty soon...good luck \:\)

You're right there Wulfy, I won't be rushing out to buy it either.

Vista: don't install to the Program Files folder. (The game will still run but you may not be able to update your pilot profile, controls settings or campaign progress. Best just to eliminate this problem at the root.)

NoCD not working: Are you installing FB or 1946? The rts.dll from FB through PF does not work with 1946.

Hyperlobby not working: Don't install into Program Files. The game's launch execute may need to be renamed to il2fb but I'm not sure.

I don't have any advice for your other issues.

Its not Vista and while the "upgrading" joke is sort of funny its ultimately silly. People were "upgrading" to Windows 98 years back when XP came out. Short term memories.

HyperLobby works fine but it needs to run as administrator. It'll be nice when its brought up to spec to not need administrative priviledges to work. Note: This isn't a Vista snafu...its the software...it doesn't really need to be administrator to work but since old versions of Windows always did

TeamSpeak runs fine. Need to know why it doesn't work to help you. Make sure you get the very latest version.

With the no CD thing it makes no difference if its Vista or anything else...its an EXE replacement.

What joystick does he have? Updated drivers are key once again...

Vista is not a problem...old software is. Most of the negative press is undeserved or at best exactly the same as with XP when it came out. With the same issues. Its really quite funny \:\)

Thanks Skycat. I avoided program files, but I can't remember if I installed HL there or not.

Go to "Controls" then "HOTAS" at the bottom (from the sim's main menu) and make sure the X and Y are going the right way. Sounds like they're reversed.

Thanks Icefire and Dart. I can't get another look at his setup for a while so I can't do much just now, but I'll bear those points in mind when I have another crack at it. I checked his joystick/throttle in the controls settings and tried formatting it but still the same. I think its a Saitek.

One bit of advice I can give is to install the game as Admin AND once it is installed go the main execute folder and right click it. Select properties and compatibility and choose Run As XP mode. Also tick the Run as admin box.

The compatibility option works well with a lot of stuff and the run as admin should stop the security stuff kicking in.

You "SURE" that in the HOTAS section of controls you have assigned the axes the correct way m8? I can never remember but its a 50% chance of getting the wrong slope assigned (i.e. "-Y" instead of just "Y").

Re-check wether its the minus or positive slopes you need to assign to get them right way round...I think ;\)

More like 60%, Sod's Law adding another 10% clusterf*ck bias in there the first time you do anything remotely technical

"Sod's Law", I like that. \:D

And it's actually scary that I have read a line of Minglish and understand it.

Thanks guys, I'll definitely check the HOTAS again and have a look at the install as admin option. I've only had a quick look at vista so it's new to me too.
