From what I understand, the VoIP (VoN) is getting a major overhaul in the upcoming patch (v1.09)! Dslyecxi had this to say over at the 'Tactical Gamer/Armed Assault Forum': 1.08's VOIP is a nightmarish catastrophe, to be perfectly frank. If it worked for you, it was probably a fluke. The sound volumes are all out of whack, there are crash bugs, the NAT translation fails more often than not, etc etc. It's painful to use at best.
The VOIP in 1.09 is significantly improved in many ways, but I won't get into detail on exactly how until I've cleared it with BIS. Suffice it to say that 1.09's VOIP is a major, major improvement over the 1.08 and prior VOIP. Sounds good to me! I really hope they don't drop the ball on this one...

I think so, you would probably speak to your selected channel. SL and FTLs speak to side or squad channel, infantry speak to team channels. So all leaders are heard by all (FTL could use team as well though, for team commands) and infantry hear each other only within their team. Perhaps switch to vehicle channel when mounted.

Don't forget that there is also a "Direct" channel, which works to simulate the actual voice of the person speaking. The possibilities of this alone are incredible. If it works as advertised, you could use the simulation of your voice to whisper commands to the squad mates that are in your immediate vicinity, or yell into the microphone, only to be barely heard over the battlefield...
I'm tellin' you, if this works, it's gonna add to our experience x10!

That would be great...hehehe! Imagine the taunts: Dye you bastards!! Or simply: "How my god! They killed Brennus..." About the voip it will work the same way it works with typing: You can always see/hear what is being write/said if you are in that group. It also works with map objects, if you put an object in the map in the general channel the enemy can see it. If you put it in vehicle channel only people mounted in that vehicle can see it. At least it is supposed to work this way. Let's hope they don't drop this..really would prefer voip to TS. If they were MS I would only believe when I saw it working...it would make me think about some animals in some simulator game...brrrrrrrrrr

I seem to remember one of the earlier patches saying that it improved VOIP. "We fixed VOIP, but some small problem. Helicopters now fly backwards and on Christmas Day all the pine trees turn into giant Gen Guba's!"

Does (would) the in game VOIP work if you are also connected to a TS2 server, or would that pretty much take the comms over?
I ask because sometimes we jump on a server to play using TS2 or Ventrillo, and others also jump on the server. Sometimes it is hard to coordinate by typing (like when they are mistakenly blowing the crap out of us from an attack helo!!) and I always wondered if I could use the VOIP to communicate at the same time as we were using TS2 or Ventrillo based comms.
