Hello, just reinstalled 1946+EnjoyRAPatches and skins and I was wondering if you reckon I should d/l the IL-2 MAT Manager, I really don't have the patience to sit and tweak every single aircraft, does it come with some sorta 'preconfigured' setting that generally improves all aircrafts MATs?

In a word, yes.

You will need to create a second'exe' file but the improvement over the 'stock' markings are tremendous

Ok hm, guess I will have to d/l it later, I hope it doesn't conflict with the EnjoyR patches+skins.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Hello Gargantou,

If you want to see markings on aircraft that resemble the real thing to the extend the game allows, it is definitely worth your while. Just take a look here examples and see examples that will do all the talking. Hovering the mouse over the example pictures will give you close-ups. You will have the ability to change the marking settings to your liking one at a time or change them all at once with theatre period settings. The markings not only look much better, but you will have a lot more at your disposal from many different air forces.

You have to go through a little difficult installation process to get the latest version update (v2.36) installed. This is what you have to do.
First install the v2.33 plus full stand alone
Then uninstall this through the Windows add/remove dialogue
Then install v 2.34 update by running the exe from the zip
Then uninstall this through the Windows add/remove dialogue
Then install v 2.35 update by running the exe from the zip
Then uninstall this through the Windows add/remove dialogue
Finally install v 2.36 by running the exe from the zip.

You can a find them here Mat Manager downloads

The reason for this procedure is that each update needs things from its former version.
You also have to add the ClearCache=0 line in the [game] section of the config.ini so that you can run the Il-2Mat Manager without the Il2-Mat utility.

It may all seem a little cumbersome but just read the readme and the text on the download site and you will be all right. You can always ask for help if you get stuck. Now go to the examples and wet your appetite! ;\)

-edit- The manager works perfectly with Enjoyr's Patches.

I guess I might later, but as I asked before, is there any form of 'pre-configuration' with as historical MATs as possible within a general timespan or is it up to me to configure every aircraft personally?

The theatre settings are for instance "early pacific" "mid eastern front" "late western front" and so on. They are tabs on the top of the screen. Click one and the appropriate settings will all change at once.

There is now a one time installer for 2.36 so no need to go through the old routine

http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&file=details&id=3117

There is also a one hit preconfigured option aswell top left and corner called "load" which will install a default set of markings.

Best thing you can do Gargantou, is actually try it. IMO it is a must have, the default IL2 markings are a game killer

Thanks for pointing that out, Brigstock. I did not know that!

The best thing the community ever created for IL-2.

There are a half-dozen or so preconfigured MAT sets you can load all at once. They are general interpretations that primarily focus on particular theaters and years, but its a good start.

The MAT-Manager is completely compatible with the skins in Enjoyr's patches. The reason is, MAT-Manager really only just replaces the default decals with better versions; if decals aren't appearing on your marked skins before you install MAT-Manager, they aren't going to suddenly start being rendered on the planes just because you are using the program. (The 1.1 update for PatchASkins is to replace the WestFront skins that should have been the unmarked versions instead of Jumo's alternate marked versions.)

Kk, had some issues with the latest enjoyr campaigns so uninstalled them anyway, many campaigns seemed bugged loadout wise, I was playing as a wingman, and got bombardment missions as an example, flying a divebomber, yet for some reason no matter how many times I restarted the mission, my Commanding Officer didn't feel it was worth to arm our planes with BOMBS on a BOMBING mission!

Anyway, thanks for all the help guys, gonna install DCG+Il2 MAT Manager in the morning!

I just saw this thread and downloaded IL-2 MAT version 2.36 from Mission4today.com and after installing it when I run it for the first time it asks for the exe path. Once I guide it to my 1946 install, I get the message "Unable to locate il2.exe or pf.exe. You need to specify your FB or PF installation path." After going into explorer and looking at the exe file it is named il2fb.exe not pf.exe or il2.exe. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to get around it? Thanks.

Make a copy of your il2fb.exe somewhere. Rename the copy to il2.exe and then move that back to your game folder.

IL2 MAT starts up now and finds the exe but now when I go to the control panel section and select launch FB I get the following error - "An error occurred while reading the configuration file. Permission denied Err=70". I am running this in Vista.... I don't know if this works in Vista. Has anyone experienced this. I would appreciate any help on this, I really dislike the default markings. Thanks.

Here are a bunch of advice threads on the matter.

IL2-MAT Manager will work in Vista. However, if you have the game and/or MAT Manager installed under Program Files (the default location when you use the installers) it causes headaches.

You don't need to launch IL2 from MAT manager. If you just select the marking loadout you want and hit quit it'll install them. From that point just start IL2 as you would normally.
