I had 3 failed downloads of the demo at GameSpot. It just hangs up at around 97%-99% but it says the download is complete.
So, I'm trying it now from FilePlanet.
My expectations are high, but for me, all that really means is I want it to be as good as CoD:United Offensive with modern weapons and better graphics.
I don't mind the frantic pace. If you get enough like-minded guys working together, you can still use some good tactics and strategy. And if you're a Rambo type then you can have fun doing that too.

Real shame, crashes my system out.
Updated drivers and all, and my system is reasonable and fully tweaked. Perhaps my download was corrupted. Hope this isn't the final product. Have to ditch it for now.

Frantic pace , chaotic fighting and confusing [...] Yeah, I feel the same about the demo- plus, I didn't like the graphics. Not my cup of tea.

I'm not sure if anyone is doing this, but it isn't fair to compare this game to the likes of ArmA or GR or other tactical shooters.
It's a classic CoD game and it sticks to the formula that has made the series successful. If you're looking for realism or wide open maps, you won't find a ton of it in this game, IMHO. I'm looking for fun and I've found it in the demo. And I'm glad they've gone with a modern war over the tired old WWII style.
Anyway, I've played the demo 3 times so far and I can tell that I'm going to love it as much as I liked CoD:UO, which is to say that it'll be one of my all-time favorite games (though I'm disappointed that they haven't added vehicles).
I think the graphics and lighting are excellent even on my 2.5 year old rig and the character animations are quite good.
Like any CoD game, there'll be plenty of scripted events throughout the single-player portion of the game. I'm fine with that. But what I'm mostly looking forward to is the multi-player portion of the game. I still play CoD:UO quite a bit to this day but I think CoD4 will finally take its place.
Can't wait for this to hit the shelves next month.

[color:#3366FF][size:12pt]That quote says it all; WOW! I didn't think I'd really like "modern combat" (still working my way through MOHA) but I really like this demo.

Frantic, chaotic and confusing...that's what real combat is. I did like the demo, and no question about it, I'm getting it. Funny thing is, these things are never as good as you were expecting. With the hype, and all, I don't think that any game can live up to all the build-up!

I have to give up on this game, at least until the final release. I believe that there are some bugs in the installer, despite what others have advised me of.
Did everything as per instructions, but, here goes...............
Installed and updated Direct X from the game, the game crashed my system. Updated the drivers for my AC97 Soundcard, and the game crashed my system. Started in safe mode, in 640x480 game started, and then crashed my system. Then did a DXDIAG, and it reports that there is no soundcard in my system, and yet, I'm still getting sound!
Go figure. I'll try the full game when I build my new system.
C'est la vie.
Kindest regards,
AJ

Oh my Gosh! How could've I been so mistaken about this game! My first impression must have been totally biased 'cause I usually stay away from those shooters on rails. But now that I put me-self a new system together I played the demo again to see how my new hardware works out. I don't know how many times I played that demo again and again in the end, but fact is I bought the full game right away and just finished it (in hardened-mode). Man, this game is truly one of the best games I have ever played! The graphics, the acting (motion capturing), the sound, but most important- the immersion! I've never played something like it before. The infiltration mission in Chernobyl was absolutely... outstanding! When I played it for the first time it really made my jaw drop! Alright, the story isn't really that original. But there was always so much action around that I didn't care much. However, I think with a more original and tighter story (which also means a longer play time and more missions) the game would've been even more gripping. I mean, heck, seeing my team mates getting shot at the end of the game really upset me! ... But the hostage rescue mission in the plane cheered me up a little again. Anyways, the fact remains that this game truly is a blast and something very special. It isn't a tactical shooter, it ain't Operation Flashpoint. But nonetheless, the action and the immersion this games creates through its carefully designed gameplay are without comparison. I'm glad I bought this game and can't wait to play it all over again. I still have to collect a lot of laptops!

why would you revive a almost 1 year old thread, lol... Because I was referring to my own comment I made about the demo of Call of Duty 4 after I tried it back then. I just wanted to point out that I totally misjudged this game in the first place. No need at all to upen up just another CoD4 thread.
