Apparently, the developers of BTRL got into a snit, so they split up. Diaspora is the result.

I've just re-discovered Star Trek:Bridge Commander.

For a game that's seven years old, it holds up pretty well, thanks to a very strong and talented modding community.

Much of the stuff can be found here: http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/

Be sure to pay special attention to version numbers and readmes - not all mods are cross-compatible.

The two biggest ones (which do work together!) are probably the Kobayashi Maru mod and the DS9FX mod. Careful with the latter, it has some other mandatory and optional pre-requisite mods.

With these you can set up a Federation assualt on a Borg Cube, play a Romulan vs Cardassian "What If?" - loads of possibilities.

I try to find most of the goings on in the space gaming scene and I have a few developers of various games frequent the site and answer questions. Link page is growing and wiki too. Give it time... traffic is coming I think I had 30k people visit last month I just need more to sign up and actually talk in the forums smile

Thanks to everyone stopping by and if your a mod owner do upload your mods or demos.

Has there ever been a space game made, or a mod made for BSG?

These guys were working on one, and have a demo, but I heard there were disagreements within the development group, and they split. I think the other group is also working on their mod as well, so there might be another one floating around. I'll post if I find it.

They are based on Freespace 2, and I checked out the demo and it's pretty good. You have full 3D thrust control, and the models are well done.

Edit: Here's a link to their forums - some good info on the game, and BSG discussions in general - http://www.game-warden.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=36

Thanks. any help getting the word out is appreciated plus at some point I won't be talking to myself any more smile

Just recovered from something the site had for the past 4 days I couldn't login to my site administration and was locked out so had to rebuild the site... that is always fun stuff to do on your weekend.

There is quite the amount of BSG games and mods out there. Besides BTRL you can checkout the many BSG mods for Freespace open, freelancer, diaspora and they even made a good one from the FPS Mount & Blade.

Evochron Legends

Excellent, in my opinion. Seamless universe, trackir supported, joystick supported. Rather difficult learning curve. Single and multiplayer.

From the website:
"You control your destiny in true freeform gameplay with a variety of activities and objectives to complete.

Customize the look, functionality, and performance of your ship with the component-based shipyard. Design your ship for the role you want to play.

Explore a 'seamless' universe without required jump gates or trade lanes to limit your movement, use optional gates to save time and fuel.
Master devastating new weapons and technology. Pilot Alliance military ships into battle to defend Evochron.

Keep the ship, upgrades, equipment, money, weapons, crew, and commodities you acquire in the game for use in both single player and multiplayer.

Join forces with other players in multiplayer to complete more challenging cooperative objectives that can offer much better pay.

EXPLORE TRADE BUILD RACE HIDE CUSTOMIZE FIGHT HIRE
MINE TRANSPORT HUNT PROTECT NEGOTIATE SPY CONQUER "

Lunar Flight

Kind of like Lunar Lander, very addictive and still in development. The dev's great about communicating with everyone.

...and another shout for Kerbal Space Program!

Vendetta Online

http://www.vendetta-online.com - main webite

http://www.vo-wiki.com - player wiki

Space based, semi-Newtonian physics MMORPG. Free 8 hour trial spread across as much time as you like, no cc required. After that subs run for between $7-$10 a month.

Some good features:

*open PvP: you can be killed anytime, anywhere, however death is relatively painless and some areas are heavily guarded

*huge backstory: spans over 2000 years, includes detailed history on each of the three nations, and a unique writing system with original pictographic and phonetic alphabet

*twitch combat: you, the player, are in direct control of your ship.

*player involvement: design your own missions for the game, create or help run an event attended by other players, or join one of VO's many guilds

*multi-platform support: it's available on Linux, Mac, Windows, and Android phones and tablets

*great dev team: supported and developed by a small indie dev team that are highly communicative and dedicated to their work and vision

Come try it out if you get the opportunity. I've been playing since June 2003, and have continued to enjoy the experience as I've watched the game grow and evolve since then.

In honor of the now retired Space Shuttle

It's a view of her cockpit

Give it a few seconds to load

Then you can change the area you're viewing by just moving your mouse

Don't forget the cieling

I bought Miner Wars 2081 the other day. I'm pretty 'meh' about it to be honest, but it's still a beta (99% complete, though apparently). There is definitely some cool graphics and technology behind it like being able to bore holes through (certain) asteroids. It's mostly let down by the controls (which are kind of sloppily implemented mouse+wasd affair) and the AI which is pretty nonexistent. These are things, however, that it would not surprise me to see ironed out in the final.

Though you can and do travel about in open space, the design seems pretty keen to keep you inside mining complexes and asteroids and such. There are periodic "solar flares" so you can't stay out in the open too long.

The only one I've played is Evochron Mercenary:
http://www.starwraith.com/evochronmercenary/

I've had it for a while but only recently started getting serious into it. It seems pretty fun although it can be a bit of a grind depending how you play; for me it's earning enough money to pay for upgrades so I can do the high-paying missions. I've been trying to avoid too much combat as I still have an outclassed ship and have to learn better tactics lol

Still, I think I bought it for $20 and there's TONS of content that will keep me busy for hours. Usually just hop in for an hour or two and do a couple missions or explore; but if I have the time I can waste half a day lol

Hey JoJo, I've got credits to spare if you wanna jump online sometime. Also, I've been workin' on various MOD projects for the XP that you may be interested in (if you haven't got 'em already).
