I want to put a plug in for this B25 formation flying with Monguse. One word comes to mind, awesome! We did this Wednesday and had a blast, we had 7 B-25s in a tight formation with 190s coming after us, what a rush! Enjoy.

Also - see positions of #2, #3, #5 & #6 in the slot position diagram - the numbers are on the wrong side. I was going by this diagram in the first mission... ?

Nice flying with you all, too bad we had vulching and base camping while briefing new guys and giving out the positions to pilots. We lost many bomber pilots to escort pilots this way... As Murphy's law goes, I also missed the target (Letum's fault entirely :p) for the first time in last 2 months... The humanity! Just kidding. \:\)

Anyway, we will do this again definately, only on closed server so we can pay better attention to new pilots. Squog, your flying skills in formation alre more than excellent btw. You should realy look into MegaMissions if you didn't hear about it till now.

Anyhow, here are the screenies from my first pass on the track:

And so I don't forget - TY little friends, we wouldn't have made it without you.

TY! \:\)

We had 15 pilots flying bombers in 1st attempt, on the next run some 1 left and 5 of them switched to fighter role. Big TY on that account. It is not often we get fighter cover.

There will be another bomber practice, so if you are interested, feel free to join. \:\)

Sorry for not seeing this the first time, yeah - Monguse posted his charts and we didn't agree before which chart we will be using. Bomber formation was created on this chart:

Formation chart for MegaMissions, differs a little from what B-25s used in RL (MTO). Reason - adjusting to shortcomings in the game.

  • Deputy Leader is flying on Leader's right wing - due to more difficult flying on left wing.
  • Charlie flight is bellow Red flight - due to not being able to switch to co-pilot's seat ingame.

It was good fun until two things happened,

Mass attack by 109's with HUGE cannons and then an error message saying I was missing the map??

Flying as Green 3 on the extreme left of the formation I was expecting to be targeted as I had little overlapping gun cover, however the cunning Hun went for box 1 with the leaders.

Got hit eventually and lost (literally) my left engine so I broke the formation and headed for home at low alt, approaching Stromboli my game crashed showing a map error, then my system went pop as well so called it a night.

Thor/Monguse and crew, thx for the flight and please post again when you plan to do this again.

Hi, I am no where nearly good enough to fly but I would love to watch - any chance of that? I have never even flown online with IL2.

Hi macdommy74,

first DL this program called HyperLobby, link:

http://hyperfighter.sk/ - register there and DL client version. All servers will be listed with HL, most IL2 pilots use it.

Secondly, DL TeamSpeak:

http://www.goteamspeak.com/

& guide how to set it up by Algore:

http://www.battle-fields.com/commscentre/showthread.php?t=11672

Next practice will be in a couple of weeks I hope. We will be posting here about it.

If you want to gain some online experience you can join us on UKDedicated servers or HISTORIA. I fly mainly on UKD because of timezone.

If you're into bombers, DL my manual from my sig. ;\)

Salute Monguse

RAF74 and WingWalkers flew a Dogfight War which used massed formations of B-25's.

The Campaign was based on the attacks by the US 15th Air Force on the Oil Refineries at Ploesti in the Spring and Summer of 1944. B-25's substituted for B-24's.

I built a custom map, with 7 Refinery complexes protected by flak etc. Fuel trucks were hidden in the large ground Fuel Tanks and refinery buildings, therefore allowing Bombers to gain points for hitting these large buildings and Tanks. Targets were visible to allow bombing from 4000 meters altitude with bombsights. Pilots could use historical techiques of bombing on command of the lead plane.

B-25's and escorts were given airstarts approx. 10 minutes from targets, Rumanian and German aircraft had to scramble from fields and climb to altitude.

Aircraft lineup was:

USAAF

B-25
P-38J
P-51C

Romanian

109G2
IAR-81C

Luftwaffe

109G6 Late
190F8 (only 190's baeed in the Ploesti area were Schlactgruppen)
110G2 (NachtJager)

Only 30mm cannon available are 110G2 and 109G6 late. (unfortunately not possible to restrict 30mm in G6's. although none were in use at Ploesti at this time)

Campaign worked well, framerates were good.

If you are interested, I can send you the map to use in your mass formation nights.

PM me if you are interested.

Cheers RAF74 Buzzsaw X/O
