Hi FlyRight. Now, you can start to see where we are going with 24bit. It's too much work to convert the code to 512 x 512 for this release, but maybe for 1.28b we could. At least enlarged textures do not need remapping.

what i see is that the WWI planes have a ground floor opportunity with 24bit before too much work got invested or locked in to 256 color craft...unfortunately as with all of the wwii craft.
but theres still time to update Tumas Albatross' at least with the top/bot sided wings which suffer the most with eaws limited colors...for instance we could have never have gotten a wing camo like that in eaw, not to mention better wood paneling, the list could go on...
what i didn't realize until seeing this adaption work even though you mentioned it, was all one has to do is make a copy of the pcx in question, paste in bitmap texture, replace the transparency pink with zero-out black and its really just an overlay...so with this now! i don't know how much better 512 can be anyways unless that would address eaw pixelated terrain?

I agree FlyRight. The colourful WWI camos, really lend themselves to 24bit, and that wing you've shown proves that. 512 is 4 times as big as 256, but the newest games seem to use 1024, which is 16 times the res of todays EAW. I'm sure at that res, pixelation would be very slight, and the ground detail like tracks, roads, and hedges, would be very crisp, and that should be our target.

Col! that wing may be over the top but to make your 24bit point, itm there was an pixel eyesore that needed addressing, i think i got the fuselage to look more like plywood now.... ...updated with non-pixelated underwings and shiny new hubcaps, more experimenting as a wip. the only down side with applying the sharper texture to somebodys default 3dzs now goes hand in hand with some minor remapping inspite of these being HiRes the old pcx pixelation isn't there for fudging, right now i'm fixing the ALB DV if J.Tuma ever checks in??? hows about a new startup thread considering most of this one is obsolete with the new exe...

No Moggy. Not Monty Python's Flying Circus, but more colorful.
