Side on view blocky and too thick Gibbo,
but keep up the good work M8! Check out Jan's
prop side views.

Hello John,

if the plane will be on the left side of your propeller(flying to the right), thats it!!

Greetings,

Knegel

Well Ralf, that's exactly what I've done, and now you say it's back to front?

Ade, It's only a question of adjusting the tra. Something I'm sure you can do when you skin it, or you can just delete it with Pink paint. It's that easy. ;\)

Gibbo. side on view of props in art profiles look exactly like what you are
portraying, however when the prop is rotating at engine speed it fuzzes out
in this side view, exactly like the default props in EAW. Also don't be fooled by
fast camera shutter speeds with some pics as they stop the prop in motion.

So, what then? Go back to a flat prop? Which is also wrong.

There must be a better way of portraying a prop in EAW, which gives it some dimension.

I'll remap the sides so there is no strong tra effect on the sides of the prop, just a faint fuzz.

Maybe that will do?

Hi John,

yes, the S.E.5a had it like you have it now, while this was not always the same in WWI and later they was rather the other way around.

Greetings,

Knegel

OK, fine Ralf. I was making this for the SE5a, and if it needs reversing for other planes it can be done easily.

Ade, I've made a change in the mapping which now gives you a faint side, which is like you've mentioned. I'm hoping this will find favor with you as I can then move on and try and build a 3D standing prop, for when you turn the engine off. With the version I'm posting, I've enlarged the prop hub, but I've still got to patch up the tra as it stops short of the hub, making it look like the blades are not attached to the hub.

Anyone else got any views on this prop? ;\)

Gibbo

On comparison, don't like the way the blades bend backwards? and there's not
enough substance in the 'fan effect'.

Still prefer the originals

I've posted a little publicity on our upcoming WWI effort over at Knights of the Sky. And stole a few screenshots to show folks.

For another viewpoint on what people like and don't like in WWI sims---
Check out this long discussion on "Knights of the Sky" forum.
Much nostalgia for "Red Baron".

There was also much talk about "dynamic campaigns" that affect the war's outcome (EAW has one, I am told)
Here's what Jeff Lackey had to say:
Quote:
Gotta jump in here. Red Baron 3D is still my favorite flight sim of all time, and I've been PC gaming since the days when a 143K floppy drive for my Apple II costs $545.

I've formally interviewed the developer of RBII/RB3D and talked over beers with him several times. One thing that he confided that they did with that sim, which he said would probably not be done by anyone again because of the programming nightmare, was make it truly dynamic. All manner of sorties, flights, events, etc. were going on and being run by the computer even if you were nowhere near the event. They simulated dogfights hundreds of miles away, that would have no impact in any way on your experience. But what this meant was that you could toodle off on your own, into an area far from your assigned mission, and run into any number of unexpected events. One of my favorite flight sim memories was deciding to take a scenic route back to base after a mission and seeing a speck of activity in the distance. I flew over, and there was a friendly observer being attacked by two German fighters. I flew over and quickly hit one of them, who was fixated on the observer, and the other pulled away in apparent surprise. He tried to come after me, but I had the advantage of surprise and altitude and downed him. However, he did hit me, and I was now reduced to limping back to base. I decided I needed to find an alternate place to set down, and then, dammit, out of the blue another German coming back from some mission saw me, and turned towards me. I was turning, trying to get low and escape, trying everything I could and then suddenly he goes down in flames. I turned and looked, and there were two friendlies that had seen my predicament and come to my aid. I made it back, landed, and then marveled at what happened.

Contrast that with static, scripted missions. Fly outside of your "assigned" region in many sims, such as an Oleg sim, and you might as well have flown into outer space...

Hi Wudpecker.

Thanks for posting the link. Interesting isn't it, how the new Sims all miss the mark, by trying to blind everyone to the short comings of the game, with super eye candy.

When will they learn it's more than just nice graphics? \:\(
