Very cool..watching Das Boot on the High Definition channel right now (HDNet Movies)...what a fantastic movie.. Makes me want to break out the sim again..

Great movie, the uncut version is 5 hours long, you have to look out a window at least once every hour to prevent cabin fever

Wasen't it the most expensive movie ever made up until that time? I've read or heard that somewhere but with my hearing & or seeing, maybe it's just my imagination.

I thought it was an excellent movie. Kinda like poltergeist meets Das Boot. Pretty well written, acted, and directed imo. Suspensefull.

Quite likely it was the most expensive TV show up until that time (1984?,) but even then i'm not sure that seems right. German (or even European TV,) perhaps but their must have been US shows that eclipsed it?

I watched the full mini-series from start to finish one night a couple of weeks ago - I would love a HD version, though!

I think it was released in 1981 & it was a full feature German flick.

I gotta fing this DVD and get it, my son and I rented and watched the 2 tape from the local video store last year.

loved it, he now at the age of 13 informed me he wants to join the navy and serve on subs as a sonar guy, we'll see
